View Full Version : Bloody Mad Woman (BMW) RIP

Colapop

Shirley Clare McNabb - Bloody Mad Woman (BMW) passed away at 10:25pm 27/05/2009 after a short illness.

She was my friend and the friend of alot of other people both here and in many other parts of her life. I would call all of you personally to tell you but there are too many. She never gave in and fought every step of the way for everything in her life. And she never stopped living it in spite of all the trials she had to live through. She is free now.

Ride well Forrest, my friend.

Such devastating news to hear of a woman who fought till the end. My condolences goes to Shirley's family, friends (especially you Col) and all those KBer's who knew her. I know that all of us from the Victoria Motorcycle Club who worked with Shirley while she was the Clubs Secretary will be saddened by her passing. RIP Shirl and your memory will live on with all of us who knew you forever.

Well, given the absolute shit she's been through lately, all I can say is at least now she's at rest. Her KB name should've been "Bloody Tough Woman". No-one should've had to go through what she experienced.

I'm sad that I didn't get to meet her (she was all set to come up here, and was going to meet me for coffee, but everything turned to custard).
Rest in Peace, Shirl.

BMW Shirley was a blonde tornado. One of those rare individuals who wasn't afraid to tell folks what was on her mind, yet also compassionate and generous of spirit.

She was one of those people who lit up a room when she walked in. I think that's called "X factor" or "larger than life".

Shirley was a great chat, either in person or online. I greatly enjoy people who do this well, and Shirley could.

There are too few Shirleys in this world. Alas there is now one less.

I will miss her.

What?? Shit!! I know I've been, kinda, not really paying much attention recently but ... last I heard she was biking round the SI, looking after a friend who was also ill and something about house sitting and a cat.

Oh, I see (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=99729). Ohhhhh crap. She just did not get any breaks, ever. Fuckit.

Ah crap..... Thats really grim reading, Shirley faced some mountains, any one of which would have scared a generation of stout hearted climbers but somehow she managed to traverse nearly the whole range.... Nearly...

Damn tough and persistent person who won most peoples admiration and respect.

I have read in Plato and Cicero sayings that are wise and very beautiful; but I have never read in either of them: Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden."

I am sorry that Mark and I can not be with you all today, thank you for the opportunity to say a few words about my friend Shirley. I met Shirley through our membership of the kiwibiker internet forum. I have borrowed a few words from the members here today.

Shirley was a blonde tornado, one of those rare individuals who weren’t afraid to tell folks what was on her mind, yet also compassionate and generous of spirit. She was an amazing, elegant, gorgeous woman who was full of life and who also had a naughty sense of humour. She was friendly, but forthright, and she had a beautiful smile. She was the best pillion ever.

She was not a bad rider either! For me though Shirley was a loyal and staunch friend. A real mate in tough times, she truly went the extra mile for those that were close to her. Shirley looked for the best in others, and took life’s knocks with grace and an overwhelming attitude of “someone is worse off than me”. She lived her life with more serenity than most of us could ever dream about achieving in our lifetimes. I will miss her.

For Shirley – one of the most successful women I have ever called friend.

"The definition of success—
To laugh much;
to win respect of intelligent persons and the affections of children;
to earn the approbation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
to appreciate beauty;
to find the best in others;
to give one's self;
to leave the world a little better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition.;
to have played and laughed with enthusiasm, and sung with exultation; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived--this is to have succeeded."
