View Full Version : Beware of the opportunists

Squiggles
3rd June 2009, 18:02
I've gotten away with it for about 5 years now, leaving my gloves in the helmet, but not anymore!
Probably an opportunist with cold hands, although they were better disguised than usual so perhaps another person snooping around the carpark... So keep your eyes out, They're fairly distinctive and im the only one i've seen in Aucks with them Might give us some leads on the thefts from last year if its not an opportunist!

An excuse to go shopping :D

That's balls. I better not leave mine wrapped in my jacket anymore.

3rd June 2009, 18:09
I left my gloves on the bonnet of a car two separate times for an hour or more when i've parked down in cp36. Was bloody glad to find them there when i went back to my bike.

See that's what you get for buying blue gloves, too easy to spot.
The theif probably also noticed your lack of matching gear, shouldn't you be wearing adventure gloves? ;)

3rd June 2009, 18:42
i often leave my gloves in the helmet as well. i love the fact that they have little tags so they can slip over the helmet lock as well. still not much of a deterrant, but better than nothing.

sucks that yours got nicked... probably only a kid looking for shits and giggles. wouldnt be surprised if they were in a nearby trash can.

Yeah well, usually take my jacket to the first lecture of the day. Tend to leave em behind in the theatre. Not bad to get away with it for so long.
Might be someone checking out my chain as it runs through the helmet...

shouldn't you be wearing adventure gloves? ;)

Yep, and a peaked helmet.

Well we lock our helmets to our bikes

I definitely don't leave my gloves though haha. But yeah as Stephen's said, he's done it for a long time, and someone would've actually have to have been fully snooping round his bike to discover them.

He got away with it for so long cause no one would want to steal those ratty old ones he used to have.

That blows! The times I've left my helmet locked to my bike, I've put my gloves in the boot under the pillion seat. I'd never just leave them in my helmet either. Too many opportunists, as you've found out!

When your helmet is locked to your bike, the only way to steal it is either by stealing the whole bike, or by cutting the strap. Which renders the helmet useless.

Your argument is flawed.

Some people steal bikes too. Yeah?

Can't your boyfriend stick up for himself?

He needs the help: he's too short to see over his keyboard.

Anyway, you continue to carry your helmet around. Affects me in no way, so my carefactor is pretty much nil.

PirateJafa

Angry? Nay, I'm just pre-occupied with downloading a movie about Nazi Zombies terrorising some medical students (some of whom are hot indeed).

As you can see, I have my priorities right. :niceone:

Heh, speaking of which, travelled over the bridge this afternoon with a guy on a dr650 wearing proper gear. And his bike had dirt marks on it.... I knew it wasn't you

No one has bothered to deal with my lovely storage space where your bikes fuel tank is

Danae
3rd June 2009, 21:57
I reckon you should at least get a helmet bag if you're gonna lock your helmet to your bike. That way your gloves are safe as well. Atm with my scooter I don't have to worry about this as it has under-seat storage. However I has a locker so I'll just stick my gear in that when I get my bike.

macros87
3rd June 2009, 22:49
i lock my helmet to my bike, even my jacket if its sheltered parking, but i just take my gloves with me... particularly at uni cos i carry a bag just seems the easiest most convenient option.... though i do miss the tons of storage in my scooter...made things even easier

YellowDog
3rd June 2009, 22:56
I have these gloves too ('cos they match the bike).

They are really well protected around the knuckles and would make fantastic boxing gloves.

Don't mess with the Blue Gloved Rider

Quasievil

Guys n Girls you do need to be careful with your gear, we would write about two or three insurance quotes a month against stolen gear.
It happens alot.

Metalor
4th June 2009, 11:17
That's shit man... low life's! Good on Quasi for shouting you a pair though (if I read correctly)

I always put my gloves in my bag, gloves don't bulk your bag out, and I wear my jacket around the whole day... can be a bitch in summer though, haha. Helmet is always locked to my bike, unless I happen to forget my big fuck off lock , then I have to carry it :(

Don't you know it's all the South Aucklanders like me coming there... that's why they need to build that new motorway.

That sucks balls Steve. Funny, I left the keys in my bike for 6 hours last Sunday while it was parked on Parnell Rd.

I suppose it's not worth the effort to try and kickstart a bike when you're only going to get $20 for it on Trademe :bleh:

macros87
5th June 2009, 21:54
people are being far too laid back though, this morning i parked and i was locking my helmet to my bike, just thought of this thread and thought id have a looksie at how other people had attached their helmets to their bikes and this scooter had only straped the helmet to it, anyone could have taken it off no problem, it was just a matter of noticing, its not even inconspicuously attached, it was really noticeable i just think no one would think anyone would just leave a helmet like that so its safe for now... but it would only take some one do what i did and it would be gone...

ital916

I saw it yesterday and as a fan I thought it was awesome. Of course it is not going to be as good as the original as they are two different genres, the original was sci fi horror, this is more sci fi war.

I thought it was badass..and I am a terminator fan...now if only james cameron directed lol. My ears are still ringing from all the explsoions.
