View Full Version : FXR stalling when in neutral?

As the title suggets, what should I be checking for if my bike is stalling when coming to a stand still in neutral? It doesnt do it all the time. Only when people are around!

And YES, I know its in neutral cause, a) the lil green light is on and b) it still rolls freely after its stalled. I have no trouble if I am waiting at the lights with the bike in gear holding the clutch in so my guess is that it is not the cable...

Idle speed/Idle Jet/Pilot Jet.

I would get rid of that CB250RS carb, it seems like its a pain in the arse.

It'd be alot worse with no carb though, eh? I have nothing else atm and sometimes you just have to make do!! Race season will be up in about 5 years so I might look at changing it then... ;)

I have also noticed a bit of 'chatter' on the front end, especially under braking. Any chance they might be related?

Most likely he's right. Crap in the pilot jet. Unless the filter has got wet/clogged in spectacular fashion.

Chatter at the front. Pump up tyre if low. Check forks are operating without stiction. Do you feel any pulsing at lever as if disc was warped?

very weird to only die in neutral.... electrical perhaps?

is it a sudden or gradual death?

is the choke on at all?

wait a minute, a CB250RS carb?! This isn't the little munted green FXR that EJ used to own is it? The one where after a bin the petrol tank leaked into the airbox and flowed back through the crank breather into the motor for some time until the thing finally succumbed to a flooded carb, saturated air filter, and probably a hydrolocked motor?

We drained at least 3 litres of oily petrol out of that motor - its meant to hold just one!

The little battler was still strong, but the filter was fucked and literally fell apart in my hands. The carby diaphragm had had it and EJ did some other stupid things with it.

EJ then missed two bargains on trademe for replacement carb, and we ended up trying to fit a GN250 carb on there but the boot wouldn't fit. After some running on engine start he obtained a CB250RS carby and I gave up. From there I'm told the fuel pump was left disconnected and it ran rich as hell.

ANYWAY, back to the point - EJ tried to pop some wheelies on it, and on his third go he twelve-o-clocked it and something electrical went crackle and snap and she refused to run - by the time i got there even the digital display was throwing a spaz but that may have been due to flat battery after he held on the starter motor thinking it was flooded. Can't remember what fixed it but Squiggles would know - perhaps the electrical gremlins have returned?

For stall you need tight lever. Kick gear. Leave lever go slow. Should no stall. Need great wires

There you go hels get this! No money needed!

Chuck some slightly heavier fork oil in the front end, see if that helps. The fork oil is properly buggered for one. New stuff can't hurt. I've got a bottle of 15W if you want some. Oh and your bottle of two stroke oil i still owes you!

Post a question in the evening (use the 'Genral' section - more traffic there) and I guarantee you'll have a useful reply by morning.

Best wishes.

How often do you have to do that???

you shouldn't if the filters are working and there isn't any rust downstream from there, but it can happen nonetheless
