Whats the tool called to remove this locking castlenut thingy, and where do I get one?

The inner is about 26mm across the bolt threads, and inside the outer bit is about 37mm.

Many thanks,
Steve

A screwdriver and a rubber mallet should do it.

Doesn't it undo using a large allen key in the middle?

A screwdriver and a rubber mallet should do it.Nah its in a bit tighter than that. I bashed it with the little sledge and a drift. It's stuck solid as a cock. I expect it's been tightened to about 60NM. The bike shop just puts the big rattle gun up it and RAT-TAT-TAT-ZOWWW, its off, but I don't got one of them.

Doesn't it undo using a large allen key in the middle?Yeah, 12mm one. I need a half-inch drive one of those too. Anyone know where from?

The only other option (than buying the factory tool) is to buy a socket of the right size, then butcher it with various cutting, grinding and filing implements, so it fits the doofer (technical term).
Or borrow/steal one from someone that has one.

As for the allen key, I bought a set of [some common tool brand I can't recall the name of] allen key sockets from...hmmm... Repco?
I also have three T-handle ones that came from Denmark (surplus tools for a $250k piece of lab equipment - we had many of these, each with a very nice toolkit).

yer I've got some little 3/8" drive repco ones. I'll go see if they have any badass 1/2" drive 12mm ones that I can put a big muthahfucken bar on. An impact one would be the shizo - I won't break that.

If you are the man like me, you could take some 4340, a lathe and a mill and make a tool that fits perfectly and doesn't look half ass..

Failing that, allen key and some pipe ?

Umm ok here is an idea get a bolt with the right size head to fit into the head, ie upside down, take 2 or 3 nuts and some locktite, lock the nuts together and there you have a special tool easily made and dam cheap too.

I'd just make one out of an old socket of the correct diameter, bit of work with the grinder should do the trick.
The attached pic is a specialist tool for Suzuki's, but very similar and you can see that it wouldn't be too hard to make your own.

Bump, still didn't find one of these tools. Anyone got any suggestions? I tried to bash it around with the pin punch, but it didn't budge. Big rattle gun time?

Steve. The tool you need looks a lot like the tool used to undoo the locknut on an angle grinder---only bigger.

Trying to describe it --take a 28mm spanner and weld 2 6mm bolts on the two"forks" of the spanner hopefully paints a picture of what it looks like

Honda clutch hub nut removing tool might fit. (same design, and very close in measurement)
Visit ya local Honda w/shop.
(I got one in my toolbox, but I don't loan any tools. Once bitten twice shy).

Ok thanks fellas. Looks like I'll hack something up from scratch, as I'll be using it occasionally it seems. Greatly appreciate your help also Sarge - if you don't have it, then probably there aint one.

Cheers,
Steve

Pfft, I should done the socket thing to begin with instead of wasting all that time.. Was a piece of piss. Ten minutes on the grinder and I have a custom tool, and 60 seconds later the nut is off.

Weird innit.. :first:

I'm amazed that, a.) it fit so well on the first try, and b.) that it came off with so little effort after the punch wouldn't budge it, and c.) I didn't break the tool..
