300km a day?! you're going to have to give more details as to gravel, costs etc or some of us might be (dangerously) unprepared

plus more of us can sign up if we know we can't not do it ;)

(lol posting xmas day)

300 a day isn't far, at max we're talking 900ks... Distance to and from the cape is about that no? A full coro is 500. 900 stops u lot being unprepared no matter where we're going :-p

not what I meant:

300 is such a short distance it suggests to me that you've got some mud track in mind

ie, 300km by open road isn't even 4 hours, by twisties 5 hours, gravel could be six or more depending on the state of the roads and out sprotbikes wont handle it too well

so assuming a standard ride of 6 hours per day.....

Don't be ridiculous, the DR might get muddy if we tried anything like that

If I can handle gravel on the FXR I'm sure the rest of you lot can! But I wouldn't worry about any long gravel/mud roads with Stephen in charge...the DR might get dirty!

But this'll be awesome I reckon. I really should look at getting a new rear tyre...but the edges are still good!!!

yeah, but the FXR has nice narrow tyres; the 600cc+ riders don't have that luxury and the tyres float/roll over the top of the stones and sportbike positions aren't that great for saving the bike either.

plus vfr800 and cb1100x riders are on machines so heavy there's not much they can do to stop them falling apart from sit on top and enjoy the slide.....

experience says that gravel off the front wheel damages fairings - especially fibreglass.

of course if we knew what to expect we could choose appropriate machinery/gear ;)

Well, thanks to the information fail regarding this ride, I'm not going to bother.

Thani's 21st is on the Saturday, and I believe the SMC is invited. Camping trip, river, waterfight, pit bikes, drinking - it should have it all by the sounds of it. PM me for info.

So see ya's there. :niceone:

I suspect that we'll be doing more riding than this "ride" too! :D And followed by a Cape Reinga trip at the end of Jan! :D
