This Sunday is the AMCC ART day at pukekohe raceway, and what places are left are up filling fast!

This sort of track practice with instruction is a great way to improve your road riding and is an aid for new track riders also. It's also safer than any road, and help is immediately on hand.

As part of our tireless efforts, the SMC has a grant from AUSA to pay for half the cost of training courses for our members** - this brings the cost of ART from $140 to $70 if you book before the 14th (it even includes a supplied lunch!) or $150 down to $75 if you turn up on the day (no lunch for you, if you even get a place).

See attached and wiki (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/wiki/AMCC_Advanced_Rider_Training) for details (includes syllabus for novice group)

I'm booked - are you? Entry form attached so no excuses :p

-Andrew, SMC Safety Officer
:scooter:

(sorry about the late notice - I'll try to be more proactive next time)

**Currently the subsidy process is to tell us (squiggles or myself) first what you're doing, then afterwards present the receipt for full amount paid and we'll compensate from there hopefully within the fortnight. This is because the club doesn't have considerable funds on hand and AUSA won't just give us the money in advance to spend on beer, but will reimburse the club after the event. The grant extends only to our members, so unfortunately this is only possible for current AUSMC members as at time of the event; we can't help if you're not recorded as having paid the $1 membership fee even though you may be a valued and/or frequent character at club events.

Also worth noting is that the subsidy is only for 6 people.

Interested to hear how this goes as I have a voucher to use at the next one (provided the VFR is running and I have donated some fresh beverages to Stephen's beer fridge, that is... :P)

Hanne
13th January 2010, 11:56
Yes, but said V4 will need to be in one piece and that is by no means guaranteed to happen by this weekend :)

SMC safety officer Approves this training course (and apparently so does STAR insurance)

17th January 2010, 22:08
If you want to exceed the speed limit, you should be down behind the windshield. :slap:

So much for the training!

didn't take long to figure that out - unfortunately we were running low on batteries and memory for the later two sessions

it is STAR insurance that approve the ART days

If you weren’t at the prize giving at the end of the day, we had a visit from head person at Star Insurance to advise they have been ‘blind testing’ us over the 3 ART days we have run for this season and have rated the AMCC ART days ‘A1’ and will insure riders participating in Groups 1, 2 and 3 without excess penalty – the only track day operator to be awarded this rating. Certificates of Completion are available for you to use as evidence of attendance at an ART day. These can be picked up on the day or can be sent out on request.

Rayray401
19th January 2010, 12:02
well, missed those then. do those certificates give us lower premiums? XD

I went down to the clubroom yesterday and handed my form in for the 6th of March :sunny:
They even asked which instructor I wanted ><

Toto and Chris should be there, anyone else?

The next ART day is on 6th of March (Saturday). The experience and knowledge about your bike you obtain is invaluable. Art is now also recognized by Star Insurance as a genuine advanced rider training and once you complete it, and obtain your certificate you are able to bring your insurance premiums down if you are on star insurance. The instructors are all current or ex racers and motorcycle instructors so the advice they give you, you can easily transfer on to the road regarding how your bike behaves. There is also free suspension "tweak and set up" between sessions to make your bike behave the best and so you get as much out of your suspension as possible for your riding. A friend who we were riding with on the last ART day was amazed at the difference a few tweaks here and there made to the stability of his motorcycle :gob: Regardless what motorcycle you ride, it is great fun. You don't have to be on a 1000cc sports bike either. We see plenty of ninja/gpx 250s, scorpios, 250 cruisers, even adventure bike riders all having fun and coming out with a grin on their face. Really wicked watching the fast boys in the fast group going round while you having your brake too

Thread for 6th march updates is here - http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/117234-AMCC-ART-Day-Pukekohe-6th-March

Places are filling quick, due to popularity, so if you are keen, better hand your form in

p.s. I am told that the SMC Prezzohdent can possibly suss out a bit of discount for SMC members seeing that ART is recognised training day and all that....;)

be good ya'll :ride:

the tweaks are done by the guys from cycletreads, and I can think of atleast one intructor who has some racing pedigree - of course it's not meant to be a racing school

whats the SMC?

the AUSMC is the "auckland university scooter and motorcycle club" (or the student motorcycle club)

we even have our own subforums ;)

I’ll attempt to clear a few things up for you Mr boomer;

‘Suspension Tweaks’ All suspension advice and assistance in adjustment is carried out by competent personnel with a clear understanding of what each suspension adjustment is likley to produce in terms of handling characteristics and ‘feel’ for the rider. The aims of this advise/help is to avoid the very scenario you so eloquently describe. Please be assured these people have a very good “idea about” what they are doing.

‘Instructors and silverware’ We have a large core of very experienced and qualified motor cycle instructors. Some hold recognised and certified qualifications, some are National Champions, some (current) International racers inc TT IOM and Ex factory (Honda) backed riders plus (past and current) club and national riders. I could list the names here but to save your embarrassment and maintain their discretion I won’t. I think you need to ask yourself why major players in the motorcycle industry and Insurance industry would want to be involved with us if what you claim to be true! However AMCC is in the very latter stages of publishing a new web site and the intention is to have an area dedicated to ART and we may well include a résumé of all our instructors together with a wealth of other information on what we offer.

I would be interested to hear what you could offer for your request for $100, all our instructors provide their time, bikes and knowledge for free………….yes free Mr boomer.
The entry fee is to cover the cost of circuit hire, medical staff, marshals, food and admin costs etc.

By all means Mr boomer I invite you along to any of our training days as a spectator/observer and encourage you to seek any one or all of us out and provide us the opportunity to discuss your beliefs. You may wish to book onto a course yourself and see what if anything we could teach you.

Many many riders get an enormous amount of benefit from attending AMCC ART events. The skills and techniques learnt in the safe environment of the circuit can be put into practise on our roads (somewhat slower admittedly). The aim is to make you more aware, more confident, more knowledgeable, and better prepared for what riding a motorcycle has to offer.

Is there going to be another semi-funded one of these happening any time soon? I'd be plenty keen now that I've got a bike that I'm confident won't smack me in the face with a piston.

yep it's on the 18th of april - I'd recommend you sign up for the slow group as the 400 seems to top out quite early down the back straight and they can always upgrade you if you're too quick ;)

I've got no problem being in the slow group, much better than being in the false-bravado-then-face-full-of-sand-trap group.
