Steve Jones, a BBC reporter for Mid Wales, has been sacked fro acting as a spokesman for the Hell’s Angels.

Jones appeared in TV and radio interviews about the Bulldog Bash, using the alias ‘Echo’. BBC managers carried out an investigation, after identifying his voice and image. Jones was then called to a disciplinary hearing and was dismissed.

Jones was quoted as saying : “If we (the ‘Angels) are organised criminals, why do we ride around quite openly displaying patches saying who we are? We get together to ride our bikes, visit our brothers in Britain and overseas and have a party. Just because some of our members have crossed the line doesn’t make every member a criminal nor the club a criminal organisation.” Jones also appeared on the Birmingham Mail website, again under his alias, criticising the police.

BBC employment rules state reporters must disclose outside interests and seek permission to represent outside organisations. Jones had not done so. BBC Wales confirmed Jones is no longer employed by the BBC.
