Anyone heard of this kind of engine. I came across a thread sometime back on another biker forum.

Basicly the arguement went that the HD motor is a Split Single. The exchange got a bit fierce from some Harley types who saw this as somekind of degregation of the H D.

Can't find much on this...................so what the guff.

One piston acts as a (sort of) supercharger for the (firing) piston. gets better scavenging. Puch among others used this idea. Dunelt has a different approach with a stepped (big a the bottom, smaller at the top) piston. But it only applies to two strokes, so not really applicable to H-D (although H-D did make small two strokes, eg the Rapido, but that was conventional)

The HD is a split twin. Some people think they fire one after the other as they go over tdc...which can be done, then they become a twingle. But really, think of them as a parallel twin with one cyl moved 45deg back.
