My current tank:
Welding of the hinges that lift up, and the 'roof' of it thats meant to be attatched, have seperated. Slightly bent out of shape and difficult to get the right shape then weld.

Has no actual release mechanism currently.

I'm debating whether or not its worth it

if you want one that works then its worth it

Is there anything else on your bike you could fix for 200 that might be worth it first. Eg, cam chain/tune up in your case

Woah, no. Who needs a storage tank. Don't you need to fix it first?

I'm sure the working tank compartment will be a great comfort to the poor bloke when he is pushing his bike along the side of the road. After the engine chernobyls. Again.

Should this thread merge with the other one?

can you fix it with bog and paint? my tank had a massive dent in it but i just bogged and painted it.

prob be more than $200 to get it done pro like (mine cost $300 but i got rolled)

Oh, I could get the tank partly fixed for pretty much free, in terms of the rewelding.

But getting it perfectly aligned is hard (was bent during my last crash), and the release mechanism is gone, which I'd need to buy a new case to replace anyway.

As Dare said, really thinking more spend it on fixing the more important parts, but as I doubt it'll disappear (how many accross riders would look at the site and think of buying it), decided to post it and see what others thougth about it

Why don't you do what you want to do regardless of what anyone else thinks? You're good at that.

Sorted your fuel intake and suspension yet?

Get the bike running and rideable first. The false tanks are neat things but can be replaced by a $30 warehouse backpack.

I do do my own thing regardless, but its always nice to hear others opinions on the matter, as they might have had insights into the matter which I didn't.

And currently the only things I wish to check with my bike is the noise which sounds like the cam chain

Wow dude, that's a totally gnarly tank! You could maybe get it chromed, and then get some faint outlines of flames etched into it, and pick them out with subtle black and orange fleck. If flames aren't your thing, I guess skulls could be ok too.

You should just buy it now. Maybe it would even be better to take the parts of that one to fix your existing one, I'm sure it will come with a working latch.
