View Full Version : Gravel bash ride Sunday May 9!

The Pastor

There is going to be an epic gravel ride on Sunday the 9th of may. Leaving at 12pm at shell westgate on sunday the 9th may.

This is mothers day, is that going to effect anyone? If people can't make it the rain date is the 15th may.

Don't be a pussy (like Indy, the big Jessie), the rides going to be pretty slow and relaxed. If you've never done gravel there will be a few of us there who can give you some pointers (ones better than when in doubt power out!)

Who's keen?

I always get cunfused by this. 12pm , is that midnight or midday ?

And can you clarify on 'epic'. Does that mean 'Smc epic' which usually involves half the ridersgetting lost, half the riders breaking down and half the riders getting tangled up in situations too embarrasing to relate ( oyster farms, anyone?). Yes I realize that is three halves smc arithmetic is like smc time.

Your math works fine, those events aren't mutually exclusive! Maybe 1/4 of the riders got lost and then broke down...

Why, so you can park next to the stream to use it to clean your DR so no one realises it went even slightly offroad?

If the tide's right and it's been raining, if you're heading toward Warkworth via Woodcocks, just before the last one way bridge, turn left. It's called Falls Road, takes you through to the lights at Warkworth and has a stream you can ride over with the right conditions.
It ain't a gravel road though (hey, you can't have everything all the time).

All very well and good, but what about sharks? You still haven't addressed the question that was raised about the possibility of sharks if there are stream crossings. Rain could make it worse!. I don't like sharks. I think you need to clarify that point.

A most pleasant and instructive excursion. Good weather (apart from the rain); good roads (apart from the slippery dodgy bits); good company (apart from the obvious suspects); good food (apart from the sauasage roll); good beer. What more could be asked. Showing again (if further evidence were needed) that neither speed (my maximum speed by GPS all day was 106kph - it might have been a little more on the way home from Warkworth), nor a big bike (the smallest was 100cc) are required to have fun

Well done Mr RM for organising it.

But the Norfland farmers certainly need to look to their fences and gates !
