Who's in?

It should be a fab weekend! (http://www.coldkiwi.co.nz)
I'll be booking my ticket and meals soon methinks.

And we should organise a ride down.
Last year the guys I went with did something like this.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=-37%C2%B0+5%27+15.42%22,+%2B174%C2%B0+56%27+22.18%2 2+(-37.087618,+174.939494)&daddr=Highway+22+to:-37.668603,175.061646+to:SH+49&hl=en&geocode=FX4Wyv0dZl1tCg%3BFbovw_0dvJ5tCg%3B%3BFcSvp f0dgyV2Cg&mra=dpe&mrcr=0&mrsp=2&sz=9&via=1,2&sll=-38.01564,175.756531&sspn=1.596919,3.56781&ie=UTF8&ll=-38.578232,176.418457&spn=3.169063,7.13562&z=8

Any questions, ask away!

It's a weekend long rally. We all head there, pitch a tent and proceed to do stupid shit and get drunk. There are massive bonfires at night, and there's also a marquee with the bar and bands (at night) it in. There are food trailers which are ok if you want to live on hot chips and burgers for the weekend, otherwise you can prebook the main meals, or take your own. There's competitions during the day on Saturday, such as a wheelie competition, slow race, weenie snatch, hill climb, hill run and so on...

Hope that helps :)

Oh, and it's cold! Last year it snowed for a wee bit on Fri night, but there is boiling water for hot water bottles, and it's not so cold if you have someone to cuddle at night.

Be my guest. I prefer to get there with enough time to set the tent up and have a wander before it gets dark, without having to leave at 6 in the morning.

I rode down with some of the South Auck crew last year, we left Autobahn at 9am, and got there around 3-4, incl an hourish lunch break and a few petrol stops. You can lead the extended one if you want, I'll be taking a more direct route :shifty:

That's actually perfect timing. There's a good chance I'll be there, as I planned to ride down to Wellington on the 4th anyway for my 21st on the 11th.

Would start the journey with you guys, anyway. Realise you'll be long gone by Bombay though.

Just looked up the AX100(had never heard of them), that is one light bike. Side winds must really get you.

Yes, in the words of motorbyclist 'my bike weighs as much as a fat pillion'.

Actually, it is so light that it pretty much goes under the radar of most winds.
They cbf trying to blow me off course because it would be too easy :P

Edit: Jafa, number 1) the AX is a suzuki and number 2) since when was xx + xy faggy? :sunny:

I'm definitely going. Haven't booked yet though. Need to get the bike serviced first. I'll be arranging a ride down, and if not enough decide to come I'll prob just tag along with the SATNR guys again, or we could just go with them anyway...

I'm afraid I can't help with the snuggling thing though :bleh:

Yep, I'll be going (as always) but this time I'll be heading south instead of North.

Best get down there mid arvo on the Friday to claim a spot, and more importantly, a good supply of firewood- can be used as a sort of currency as the weekend progresses.

Food is crap and expensive there - best to take stuff with. Unlimited (sort-of) hot water, which is particulalry useful to fill your hottie befor tucking yourself in. BTW - if you don't pack your hottie now, you'll forget it.

Though not "allowed" good idea to bring in some beverages, as choices are, limited onsite. Recommend grabbing a few beverages from the bottle shop at Ohakune...

This year, for those going thru Aucks, be aware that the Southern Motorway lanes are being closed for 36 hrs between Sep 3-5, so best to leave early and come back late or plan to take other routes south outta Aucks.

Don't think I will be going anymore :( my bike is costing me more than I can afford at the moment and there's no money left for cold kiwi :'(

But looking at the weather forecast I guess it's going to be a wet weekend, which isn't the best weather for camping out anyway.

Bring on the SMC roadtrip!
