Some invertebrates, such as flatworms and cnidarians, lack a circulatory system that contains blood...

Humans don't.

The need for blood is constant. In New Zealand, 150,000 whole blood units will need to be donated in the next 12 months to meet clinical needs.

That means it is time to avail yourself to the draining apparatus and do a good deed for your fellow man. Make like a Vampire Finch, Candiru Fish or Mosquito (http://scienceray.com/biology/zoology/eight-most-blood-thirsty-animals/) and come along to the blood centre and be hooked up to a machine.

What: Mass blood donation
When: Tuesday 18th January, 5-7pm
Where: Blood Centre, Great South Road (Behind Dilworth School)
Why: For the chocolate bikkies. For the bragging rights.

Because, let's face it, you are young and healthy and should count yourself lucky that you are not a flatworm...

Don't worry, they can jab you like a pin cushion until they find a good feed. :D I should find out if I am eligible yet, after the last.

I must say thank you Hanne, for reminding us. Too easy to let 6 months lapse.

Peeps can donate every 84 days (up to 4 times a year), by Tuesday it'll have been 91 days since the last SMC/BRONZ run and ~90 days till the next :D

Oh I LIKE being stuck with needles, it's the tennisball size bruises I get if some trainee cocks it up that bothers me, all good though I just ask for the registered nurse to do it these days

True, back in school a mate and I donated. Nurse missed his vein, wriggled the needle around to find the vein. Had the most impressive bruise for weeks for someone that didn't bruise easily.

Will jump on this bloodwagon, anyone else on the shore, looks to be a lonely ride otherwise.
