Tardme $250 pocket bike - is it too bad?

i understand its 250 so it will be cheep as donkey nuts but will it be alright for a beginner who might try and race it after a few practices crash it several times and hide it under the couch in the garage to protect from my mum? :spanking:

prefer feedback from people who have one or one comparable

Yeah thats fine to have some fun on. Theres a few guys who regularly hire a track and "race" them in your area ish. There is also a club in the bay of plenty who has monthly competitive events.

Can't tell you anything about the bike but if you decide to take it on track drag it along to a Mt Wellington Bucket meet on the Saturday, there are a few that usually turn up for a ride, haven't been enough to warrant a race of late though.
$20 unless you are an AMCC club member from memory.
www.amcc.co.nz for the calendar, it's in the buckets section strangely enough. Next meet is this coming weekend, you could always pop down for a look if nothing else.

"Motards". A mate of mine has two of them. They aren't that good to corner hard. The Daytona is much more interesting to ride competitively.

At the risk of offending all the pocket bike riders on here (and it is the pocket bike forum after all)

If you plan on racing in Auckland you are probably better off with a bucket, based on the number of bikes and the track time you'll get. Come down on Saturday and introduce yourself, Blue bike, number 13.
Bring leathers and a back protector if you have them, I may be able to give you a quick ride on my bike at the end of the day, may, as I'm already committed to letting a couple of other randoms have a go.

It's a fair comment. Once you get three or four of these together you can have a good time, but that's still $1200 to 1400 odd to get them and sort them out.

No intention of running down pockets, they look like a hoot, especially the liquid cooled ones that put out as much power as the average bucket, mind you they are a bit more pricy than $250.
There just don't seem to be that many people racing them up here at the moment.

This is valid but if you want to travel to edgecumbe in the sunny eastern bay and
race with us a lot of other pocket bikers and a darn good crue at that !

The track we race at has a good surface and now we run it in both directions it twice the fun !.

We have a lot of good racing going on !

Would one of these be okay for my 10 year old?

He has out grown his LT50 quad and now wants a 2 wheeler to see if he likes them.

He's about 4'6" and is a skinny runt.

Fair enough and if I lived down there I would probably get one and join in.
Travel to race meets is what makes things expensive though, wife and I can both race buckets in Auckland for about $100 a month, start traveling to away meets though and the costs go up sharply.

Having said all that, if you can afford to buy the bike and not worry too much about the cost if it goes terminally wrong (Have my doubts about cheap chinesse stuff) I'd say go for it. It will get you out on track for little cost, if not racing.
As a comparrisson a reasonably sorted bucket will set you back abot 2 grand and the required protective gear is a level higher.
Full leathers, boots, back protector. As opposed to Jacket, jeans if you are keen and ankles covered. Not that I would feel all that comfortable in the pocket minumum safety gear if I was planning to go out and push it and possibly crash.

He's about 4'6" and is a skinny runt.They aren't really suitable for "driveway" use. They are plenty quick and theres really nowhere to ride them unless you have half an acre of concrete (kart track, tennis courts) and it gets boring unless theres others on similar bikes.

You might consider starting up a group down your way and swinging a deal with the local kart club. The edgecumbe and chch boys did similar and have a lot of fun with it.

so i found a 4ish year old mini motard with not much use :D its not quite ready for the track, needs a little brake work new chain and maybe some more oomph, after being fully striped and 2 cans of crc its starting first pull and running really nicely ::clap:

so im thinking of making it a little faster now...

would one of these fit it anyone know?

Looks like you have a bike sorted. Before you bring it to the track remember to nylon the thing. Should be able to lie on it's side / crash without any metal hitting the track surface. One of the conditions we have with the kart club for track hire.

I had one of those $250 doller ones, brought one for me and one for my missus at the time. Basically if your not rough with them they are fucking awesome fun to hoon round on, my missus rode hers to work a few times and i managed to wheelie mine for about 10 meters once (then looped out off the back :clap:)
I always used to laugh at the people who raced them and took it seriously but hey if thats you thing then go for it.

Mate...for $350 I would sell one of the bikes Connor used to win the NZMMRC Junior Open title....it's QUICK - Black or white - your pick :rolleyes:

It's a 6.8HP ZPF/Z1 - good quality Sava tires (they cost $300 alone)
