so 5 of us went out today (gsxr-1000, 636, 636, 636, zx10r) and had a mint ride even with a few set backs, and we decided to make it regular, so, this is the thread where people can
-give ideas for future rides
-confirm there attendance for a ride
-check to see if there is ride on
-organize bigger rides or week night rides.....

PEACE

was a bit of an adventure with the rain and the screw in the tyre, but was fun :). Next sat I vote we go up to wellsford via the motorway and come back down via 16 towards hellensville. That is a great ride, hopefully it wont be rainy and nobody will get a tyre puncture.

that is indeed a good ride, not too keen for motorway though- plenty of twisties to get up there! also can come back through silverdale and riverhead for some quality bends.

This would be a good 50km ride full of twisties starting at albany and winding down to a beach for some food. I don't mind leading at all if need be. It could then be at the groups discretion to proceed with what TIBLE_90 said and head up around that way.

we dont have to take motorway, can go up to wellsford via 16, and just come back same way, just thought it would be better to do a loop than turn around and go same way. Plus there are some good twisties on the mtwy up north to wellsford, and you can actually get some speed. Plus youre 50km route takes us to a dead end...

22nd May 2011, 20:40
Loop is good idea. Given that we're all students I'd like it if possible that we try not to take fast roads but rather real twisties that you don't have to break the speed limit much to corner hard as. Sub 100, knee down stuff is good and keeps the old bill off our backs. Some of those corners on highway 16 you have to take at nearly 200 to have any fun. All we need is one cop to ruin everyone's day- alas, been there, done that. Just my opinion anyway :)

Ah, very good point. That would def ruin the day, I've never had any issues with cops and speeding so far luckily. I just find the 50 zones dangerous to take corners fast in, since I was hit by a car in a 50 zone. so I would rather avoid them. I've always just kept an eye out for cops, but I suppose that would be harder to do in a larger group. Hmmm, what a dilemma...corners with knee down sub 100 vs cops. But I have ridden up the Northern mtwy lots of times and usually don't encounter many if any cops on those rides.

28th May 2011, 21:26
you guys went back? thanks for the thought, sorry I just had to head back. I waved to the guy on the red ninja and just turned around. So how do I signal I'm off lol?

Haha yeah arms and wrists are fine, it was lock to lock though! Came off the throttle as my front wheel perfectly hit a substantial ridge in the road. Got back on the gas and it stopped though. Wouldn't have liked to hit the road in jeans!!!

TIBLE_90
29th May 2011, 09:18
the wave and turn around would have worked as a signal, but u did it right after u almost crashed so we all thought u were gona have a look at the rd. Oh well, no problem. Yea, hitting the road in jeans would not have been good at all

10th June 2011, 15:39
It's 20 bucks for the whole day, so cheap as. Kart track in Mt Wellington, good little mix of fast and tight corners. I'm going on a motard but if you cover up your bike's exposed metal parts (casings, pegs, bar ends, swing arm) that are likely to contact the ground then you can take your bike on. Leathers are recommended but not essential as it is under 100kph. I also have a 50cc mini bike for someone to have some fun on if they want. Come along and see what's there anyway if you're keen- it's good fun.

But if I don't meet em then I'll be keen to go for the loop. 16 is for the most part far too straight for any entertainment really, it's just a highway to go A to B rather than what you'd call twisties, and it's full of cars for that reason. If you're going up that way then you can't not go through old north road and woodcocks road; the ATNR and Regular Sunday Rides groups hit these roads for a good reason - the 2 best roads in Northern Auckland- unbelievable stuff. Throw in Ridge road and you have one heck of a ride.

This is the best of North Aucks... no cars, but heaps and heaps of bikes always on these roads!!! Also takes the better part of Highway 16 http://maps.google.co.nz/maps?saddr=O'Brien+Rd&daddr=-36.7491956,174.6296512+to:Old+North+Rd+to:Woodcock s+Rd&hl=zh-CN&ll=-36.744249,174.617043&spn=0.117884,0.174923&sll=-36.742529,174.623566&sspn=0.058944,0.087461&geocode=Fe63z_0diDZpCg%3BFXVAz_0dE6NoCil9qjZUdD4Nb TEX2iD3_4tOgQ%3BFTQ1z_0dCG5nCg%3BFfw11P0d1EFoCg&mra=dpe&mrsp=1&sz=14&via=1&z=13 old and new bike debris to be found on nearly every corner...good times :)

Wow, those roads are amazing. The best twisties I have ever ridden :woohoo::yes:. We had two crashes on the ride out of 7 people. One was just a minor one and nothing really happened. The other one was a bit more serious as the rider went off the road and down a steep bank:shit:, the bike got a bit fucked but at least the rider wasn't hurt. Other than that one of the guys got stopped by the cops and got a $200 fine. All in all though it was an amazing ride and one hell of an adventure. It took us 10 hours, left at noon and got back at 10pm. I don't recommend riding the loop after dark, that's when the second crash took place and it's rather difficult to maneuver around the bends when you cant see. Definitely keen to do it again though

Yea, it just depends on who shows up. If only more experienced riders show up the pace will be faster, however, if there were some 250's along the rides would be more suited for them. They are designed to be fun for everyone not just experienced riders.

Faster? Sounds like slower from your other post. A Coro only takes six to seven-ish hours even with a good lunch break, gas stops and plenty of pies and lies.

Ten hours dragging crashed bikes up banks isn't exactly how any "fast" or "experienced" riders would do the Coromandel.

...first of all I didnt crash so don't try and insult me mmmkay, second of all we took many breaks as it was the first time most of us had done the coro loop. The crash in the ditch was due to it being to dark to see where the road went, not any lack of ability. I suggest you keep your silly comments and judgements to yourself from know on as you clearly just want to boost your own ego.

So what you're saying is that a "experienced" bunch of bikers like yourselves don't know how to ride within the limits of your vision/abilities? Or did you just not bother turning the headlights on?

See you at Hampton Downs this Saturday if you want to whip out your "ego".

Ride safe, ride hard. :headbang:

...I have no need to prove myself to you, also I never said we were an experienced bunch of bikers...It was the first time I have ridden with that group, the usual people who turn up on the Saturday morning rides are experienced riders.
