You can push people only so far before they decide to let you know that they are not happy with certain government proposals in the matter of road safety policies as the French Minister of Interiors Claude Guént found out on Saturday June 18th.

100,000 motorcyclists organized by the Fédération Française des Motards en Colère (FFMC – French Federation of Angry Bikers) took to the roads all over France on Saturday blocking traffic to protest against a series of these new proposed measures that targets motorcyclists, which inlude:

- mandatory wearing of a fluorescent yellow high-viz vests at all times;
- force all bikers to change their registration plates for larger ones;
- no lane splitting;
- the removal of warning signs for radar speed traps;
- the ban on radar detectors and other measures that warn of speed traps;
- additional training if a rider hasn’t used a motorcyle for five years or more

Some of the new sanctions include: a 30.000 Euros or 2 years prison for the sale of radar detectors, a fine of 1.500 Euros plus the loss of 6 points on licenses for using radar detectors. Jail time for those caught doing more than 50km over the speed limit.

--------------------

The French are apt to rally in their masses at the drop of a hat, so I'm sure this looks like just another day to the French government.

Looks like a fun ride though!

when you look at what they are protesting about I can only think what a bunch of pussies we are and we have the cheek to call them surrender monkeys! We have most of those things in place already and more, include stealth speed traps.

You have to hand it to them, they certainly know how to protest.
I wonder if we could import some over here....

on the day parliament rises, stop most MPs getting home from the airport. With an earlier ride in Wellington through the Victoria tunnel and around the bays just to block both routes to the airport.

The French are excellent at getting their point across to the powers that be.

The French Govt is somewhat afraid of the French people because of it. How it should be IMHO.

We're way too quick to just bend over here, not so much out of fear of the govt more out of apathy it seems.

Indeed, maybe they are called that so much they now feel the need to overcompensate! Fucking good effort, hope their pollies have a rethink :scratch:

A good organisation and a concerned public block prepared to put their bodies where their mouths are! - just like the populations in the Middle East and Greece.
Makes the apathetic populations of NZ (and a few other countries) look like the scared, whining whingers and doubters, they are!
The demonstrations of a couple of years ago also achieved results.....

What was the Bike protest years ago at Hyde Park London?...do you remember?.
Was talking to a mate some time ago who attended and he said it took 2-3 hours to clear the park afterwards?
A constant stream of bikes.

That wasnt a protest...it was the response to the Triumph campaign 'come see our new bike that doesnt leak'....

think you will find that the real reason is actually to do with generations of distrust on both sides....we are such a new country with a benign history in comparison

Not sure but the usual one in Londinium is for parking charges etc, we've had loads but apart from a bit of disruption on the day very little is ever resolved.
