A motorcyclist is facing a speeding fine - despite not being on the bike when cameras snapped him exceeding the limit!

Boris Maier, 38, from Bern, Switzerland, was recorded travelling at 107kph (66mph) in an 80kph (50mph) zone… sliding along the floor as he fell off after slamming on the brakes having seen the camera. The image taken by the camera focussed on Maier, but the registration number of the bike was in full view.

A police spokesman added that Maier was lucky not to have been sliding just 3kph faster, as at 110kph he would have automatically lost his licence.

Interesting article. I guess it's pretty clear he was on the bike before coming off, and more than likely, the bike was going faster before it started sliding.

Looks like an innocent pedestrian minding his own business when stuck by fragments of a fallen satellite to me.

If he hadn't of braked he would have lost his license anyhow. Guess it kind of works out in the end. Could be one of those cases that if you had the shit to lawyer you could argue that they didn't get the vehicle's speed and it is a vehicle offense or that he has photographic prove he wasn't riding the bike at the exact time of the offense.

Take it to court, they've incorrectly identified the pedestrian as a car anyway.

Intersting that the papers didnt use this as an anti speed camera story...

two moving objects in the picture - obviously the bike was doing the speed limit and the sliding pedestrian in leathers bamboozled the radar - case dismissed......:msn-wink:

haha thru the haze a funny thought popped in my head.. you think they will give you speeding ticket if you are not on a vehicle as such.. i.e. a pushbike downhill? or rollerskates with rocketpack on ur back.. good for 120mph. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZITrOaVra8

You are counted as a pedestrian on roller skates, even those little drift trikes, pedestrians do not have a speed limit. Bicycles do not count as pedestrians and they can be booked.

If safety cameras are supposed to be located at accident blackspots, I guess this one is positioned just about right

This exact thing happened to one of the young fellas over here just recently, but it was in response to an Omega coming the other way! Cue careless use, speeding ticket, bike meets road at 100k+ etc.. Biker cop gave him an extended earbashing as well LOL! :headbang:
