China Motor Magazine would like to hear some success stories regarding Chinese motorcycles. After so many horror stories regarding the 1st wave of exported models the general report around the world now is more encouraging. Do you have a success story? I’d appreciate it if you would share it with me and I’ll print your opinion in next month’s China Motor Magazine.

Cheers

Dave

I was blown away while in Shanghai. Those GN125 "taxis" were a testament as to what durable is.

Hi Dave,

Would help if the chinese brands stopped name changing every 6 to 12 months.
Some people suspect chinese build quality (well, Quality control really) will naturally improve.... but only on the bigger brands that are aahem recognized names.
Kiwi's - kinda old fashioned and not the quickest to accept change. We are still struggling to accept Korean manufactured Hyobag oops Hyosungs as a quality and reputable brand.

Doesn't matter so much where it's made. Yamaha will have minimum quality control standards that they enforce at all of their factories.

yep, my wee Yammy is made in India.
6,000km last ~9 months and only thing I had to replace was the chain (freakish chain break). Excellent wee bike - cannot fault the build quality (relative to the $$ spent, as well as more expensive Jap assembled bikes).

Don't they make Harleys in India? Or at least several components?

Dunno about the components. Mine has 'MADE IN THE USA' on the frame.

.......

Because the keyway does not look like just another 250 upright naked like the scorpio does

and it suits my needs right now better than a scorpio does

and the local scorpio dealer is in my bad books

Yes, your frame was probably made in the USA.

I figured.

Don't they do final assembly in a factory in Mexico these days?

"Made In...." is a declaration that the final product was made there - or in other words "Assembled in..."

There's a different term for products where all components are sourced from the same place. Might be "Produced In..." but I can't remember.

I'm staunchly kiwi. Which means I'll only buy a brand a I know and trust. In my case, It's honda. This time.

No, "staunchly kiwi" usually means "wow, look how cheap that is - it must be great value for money".

Every bike these days has Chinese or Indian parts on it. Doesn't matter if it's a BMW or an Aprilia or anything else.

Its dangerous to generalise, but it is quite an accurate statement, there are some manufacturers that stay strong on the "not using Chinese parts" ethos (Norton for one), but as a general rule, you are correct

The Chinese seem to think that 'copyright' means it's right to copy...
What they don't seem to understand is that the copy should be right...

I wonder if there is a correlation between not installing chinese parts, and not selling bikes.

I got loaned a Magelli 250r while the bike was get fixed.
I ride it once. Never will i ride another one. calling it a piece of shit is an under statement.
I rode it for around 1/2 hour and it took about an hour to stop shaking, not from fear but it just vibrates that much.
The brakes either don't work or they are locking up, and still not stopping you, the kick stand drags on the ground in left hand corners and the gearbox is just rough.

Top Gear had a thing on Chinese cars last night. They copy everything and can't even get that right but they are getting better.
