World famous Brough Superior “Old Bill” is to go under the hammer. The bike – said to have featured in every book ever written about Brough motorcycles – has been referred to as "arguably the most important motorcycle ever to come to market" by auctioneers H&H.

The 1,000cc, v-twin was built in 1922 for Brough’s founder, George Brough. He rode it to victory at Brooklands where it recorded a lap of over 100mph. After this, the engine was swapped for a prototype JAP unit and went on to win more than 50 races during 1922 and 1923.

The bike is expected to fetch upwards of £250,000 and may possibly challenge the £280,000 world record at the auction in Duxford, UK in October.
