Cameras mounted on the helmets of police motorbike patrols are currently undergoing trial. The headgear is being tested in France and a Scots force is monitoring the trial.

Lothian and Borders police already use undercover officers on motorbikes and are considering using helmet-cams. Chief Inspector Kenny Buchanan said: "As well as helping to crack down on speeding, the cameras would record breach of the peace or road rage incidents."

However, there are doubts regarding both the technical and legal aspects. Sue Nicholson, of the RAC Foundation, said: "The technical aspect sounds complicated and it would have to proven to work." Solicitors have also warned that what could be considered filming people in a private setting could breach the Human Rights Act.
