Papamoa couple Allan and Vicky Luckman saw what appeared to be their stolen motorbike stopped at traffic lights with a young man on it.

An hour or so later in the Devonport Rd carpark behind Wrights Sports, they desperately wrestled him as he sat astride the Honda VTR 250, revving the engine and trying to run them over. They eventually wrenched the motorbike from the man, by rocking it on to its side.

Constable Tim Mills described the thief as a slim-built European man, probably in his early 20s, of medium height, with "number two" clipped blond hair and wearing a black and white jacket, grey army pants and carrying a grey or black satchel - was travelling in the opposite, northerly direction along Cameron Rd.

Constable Mills urges anyone who may have seen the man, or was in the area at the time, to contact the Tauranga police on 577-4300 or 0800 SPEAK-UP.

Imagine being a legit owner attacked by two strangers, depending on the size / look of the mister not sure I would stick around to explain in this day and age. F$%k thats what insurance is for.....

Sorry, I meant to say that. The thief was also chased by Dame Susan Devoy, who happened to be shopping nearby and saw the incident. Sadly, she lost him just before Elizabeth St. "I just wanted to catch him but I couldn't run fast enough" she said.

(I'm guessing this will mean something to you guys - sorry, I'm not too up on pepople awarded Dame status by The Queen)

Dame Susan is ex-squash fame. In her forties I think now, family kids etc.

I don't have any Camo pants though. And wouldn't be caught dead on a 250 when I have my full.

bloody good to hear they have the bike back. When ours were stoleni spent the whole time driving round the "hood" areas with the sole intent of running over my bike along with anyone who happened to be riding it!

"name and shame" is the name of the game

doesn't matter 'how' as long as it 'gets' done
