On my Suzukis I never change the oil, or filter. Never have for years and tens of thousands of kays, that's Suzuki's for you I guess

Mine get done at the 5k service intervals...

When buying the bike, it had 52000 on it, so didn't bother with that 5k, and had one at 59000ish. By 58000 ish, under hard load, I was getting it jumping out of second, after shifting from first, unless I was shifting without the clutch. Also had the odd false neutral.

The service fixed all of that, now it shifts very nicely.

Every 3.5-4K's, both oil and filter with semi-synthetic stuff only. Keeps your engine clean and happy.:scooter:

Every 5000km oil/filter or as close as possible. And when getting a new bike 1st job is oil/filter whether it's just been done or not by the previous owner or shop.

3.5 is a bit excessive. Depends on what it is and how you use it. a 250 spinning to 17,000 and getting thrashed everywhere? 5 should be fine. bigger, slower revving bikes, maybe a bit more (6-7k). Oil is cheaper than a new gearbox though, changing oil too frequenly isnt going to hurt.
Change the filter too if your doing the oil, lots of nasties in there.

I prefer to do every 4,000km cos I ride like a Nana and treat my bike like its fragile toliet paper.

5,000km is the norm, but for a Honda, use top oil and you'll get away with 6,000km easily, change the filter every 8,000km.

most of the Europeans stick to the service schedule, 10000km for almost every bike excluding the race bikes. My old monster was on 6000k's as far as I know and my little lady needs a service every 6000k's as well.

never understood why the kiwiworkshops reckon half the manufacturer recommendations, I know you guys doing more short trips but we don't do just long range trips over here and I never had any problems.

If nothing else is happening this weekend, I'm gonna go (but just for the ride and lunch.. no way am I climbing in freezing cold water): Mid Winter Dip (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=878&day=2006-6-18&)

Triumph service intervals/oil changes etc have shifted to a 10,000km schedule. If its good enough for them, its good enough for me. I'd do what the manual recommends.

yep.. that's the best thing to go by.. they don't write manuals just cause they are completely bored.. no no no, when you're bored, you just type waste-of-time agreements like me on KiwiBiker :D

Every 1,000km for the Darmah with a filter every second change.
Though I might extend that a bit when I'm away of course.

do you think its that necessary to drop the oil so often for such a new bike?? I know suzuki dont make the best engines but it couldnt be that bad, huh??:nya:

Im thinking that I should really go by time rather than km's as synthetic oil kinda goes off after 6months and that would be when protection is reduced. In which case I will be dropping the oil in a couple of months at which point itll be around 8000kms since it was put in.

I don't think synth ''goes off'',but I change my oil in 4 strokes every 6 mths regardless of km,time is more important than kms.

As Motu posted, there is a time factor involved too. It is easier for me to remember the next ODO figure to change the oil at rather than which month.

About every 5-7 thousand Kms, and filters. I like to keep the oil fresh and the bike seems to like it too.

Stick to what your service manual states. All brands are different. Some 5ks, some 6ks, some 10ks. Most say to change the filter every 2nd oil change but I always change the filter every time I change the oil. Cheap insurance.

5000 - 6000 km's. Synthetic only and a new filter.
