It's not a motorcycle, it's a Gyrocopter.

Where's the fun in that?

I agree, definitely a gyrocopter and not a motorcycle. Think I saw the title of a news article about it, got excited... then saw the photo and said "That's a gyrocopter, that is".

That said, I'd love to have one!

Wonder why gyrocopters never took off (pun TOTALLY intended)? When they featured one in that James Bond film (Thunderball?), I thought it would be the start of a big craze... but somehow it just didn't happen.

Shame.

There are a couple of gyros in development in NZ. One I have a connection with is the Kahu in tauranga. Its fully enclosed, fast, designed to be cheap to own and maintain. Similiar performance to a robbie 22.

Ahh yes, but will it crash with the same frequency and aplomb as a robbie 22.

Not unless you put it in the hands of Rick Lucas (owner of helipro, famous round here for crashing two of everything he has ever owned).

Na a gyro is pretty hard to prang, seeing as it is always in autorotation theres no problem if the engine cuts out. It only gets messy when the blades fall off....

Yeah that Cierva guy tried to convince everyone about the practicalities and safety aspects of Autogyros in the 1930s. No one bought it then either. They just look wrong! :)
