Large stones have been placed in the middle of a footpath in an attempt to stop off-road motorcyclists. Dozens of the large stones are being lifted onto the path at Eston Nab on Teesside, according to Redcar and Cleveland Council.

Ironically, the placement of the stones is causing the path’s erosion – thought to be the reason that people have placed them on the path to stop the bikes.

Councillor Graham Jeffery said "We are dismayed that this is going on. We are trying to develop the whole of this area for the community - not just cater for one sector. These people are not helping."

Members of the public are now being urged to report anyone seen placing stones, as well as any off-road bikers.

Uh, I would have thought that stones large enough to impede an off road bike (oh, goody, a trials course!) but present a most significant obstacle to pedestrians? So now nobody can use the path? Good one, Mabel.
