It's from an NPR piston kit for an RG150.

It looks like it should sit behind one of the piston rings.

If so which one? Is it necessary at all?

looks like it should go behind the oil ring

Er, um, RG150 is a two stroke. No oil ring on a two smoker, cos there's no oil!

"Tis a ring expander, they used to be common. Where is goes, you need to check the suppliers info. Obviously, behind one of the rings.

I dont think it anything major might have been in bike to stop dust going in when in packaging?

Under 2nd ring.

Look at the piston & you will see the 2nd land is deeper to accommodate it.

Why do people reply if they obviously don't know? Packaging? - Please!

Ivan do you think Phil would be stupid enough to suggest that a piece of plastic goes behind the piston ring?

Think before you talk dude

Thanks Dave, beneath the 2nd ring it shall go.

As for "you need to check the suppliers info" - I tried that. Couldn't find anything from NPR. The suzuki manuals don't show it at all.

But I mean Ixion already had explained what it is.:doobey:

A quick speel:
The rings don’t rely on tension to seal the cylinder (well at anything more than kickover speed). The top ring is pushed out by the pressure of the charge contained above it in the readily shrinking volume. The 2nd ring seals what the top ring lets by. The ring expander is (this is a guess here:) is likely to help the 2nd ring move around a bit to stop it being so prone to gumming up & make sure it is 'out' as the engine starts which would aid compression at starting speed.

Some manufacturers use them, some don’t. Largely it seems on lower speed engines, Although I think my RZ had them.
