I noticed on a trademe auction, a guy said he'd removed the quieting gears from his gear train.

While my motor's in bits I thought about doing this to reduce rotating mass, but am not sure what other consequences it will have.

Who else has done this or knows of it being done? other than increased gear noise, what disadvantages are there?

if all they do is quieten things down, then I couldn't imagine it having any effect. But if they counter weight anything, then that could be an issue for the beginning of things

he's right.

The way they work is to stop backlash and quiet things down.

But they do add a great deal of resistance to the cam gear train and also rotating mass.

If you take them off but then decide you preferr them on, you can always put them back on

I guess if noone can give me a definite answer I'll just have to try it and see.
