F1 engine designer Mario Illien from Brixworth in Northamptonshire has built an 800cc V4 motorcycle which he aims to debut in the Portuguese round of the MotoGP series on 15 October. Illien built the engine, with the chassis being designed by Swiss engineer Eskil Suter, who has worked with Kawasaki.

Illien hopes to recruit MotoGP veterans Alex Barros and Max Biaggi to evaluate his bike in the last two rounds of this year's championship

Ilmor engines designed by Illien have already won two Formula One titles with McLaren-Mercedes and 11 Indianapolis 500 races. His ultimate aim is to launch a team for the 2007 season and feels he can challenge for the world title by 2010.

Sounds... ambitious!
Got any links? Photos? Schematics?

McLaren would of won a lot more races and titles if it wasn't for the unreliable Ilmor/Mercedes engine. Will we see Max kicking his Illien powered MotoGP bike as Rossi powers by?

That'll be cool. We don't see many engine blow ups at present, and the other teams will love the idea of oil being spread over the racing line.

It'll certainly make for interesting viewing.
