Can anybody recommend a firm in NZ that can do nickel chrome plating in cylinder bores? I think "Nikasil" is the stuff...correct me if I'm wrong.

There is a place in Aussie that does it - not sure about NZ.

Cheers. I'm assuming that there must be someone in NZ that does it. We have 2 plating shops in the company that I work for but they won't touch it because it's an aluminium bore and it's a lot harder to chrome over ally apparently. There's heaps of platers on the Yellow Pages so might have to do a bit of ringing around me thinkin...

No mate - it's a VERY specialised job. Most platers wont touch it and you need a real expert - sorry - it's not cheap either.

Try a search, it's been asked before. There's a crowd in (I think) Te Puke, or something like that, advertise in KiwiRider mag. But I think they just send them off shore to be done.

There is NO company in NZ that can do this job correctly! They need to go to the USA or to the UK, the Aussie companies plating quality is too soft

There I believe is 3 firms in Auss, one is reputed to be ok (can't remember). I've sent a couple of things over to US Chrome in the states (after having poor performance from the cheaper of the Auss crowds). They are not that expensive & reputed to be the best.

Do a search for Milleniem Technologies in the USA, they are brilliant for this

I have used Aurum Plating in Queensland, limited success.

US Chrome in the States is where I ended up sending my PWC cylinders.

Aurum "failed" to leave the correct cylinder to bore tolerance ..... nuf said.
