Allows a piston to travel Linear rather than having a little end etc

Interesting! But how would the spindle of the centre gear be supported? I can understand how the piston could work etc but the centre gear would need a spindle? its always moving position though?

/me not get it. It looks like a standard planetary gear, except for the two oversize gear teeth. How does that provide piston travel?

The hole in the "tooth" is where the "conrod" attaches and follows a linear path across the horizontal

very cool. i gather that means you can have the con rod rigidly attached to the piston and save some weight?

One is spinning constant speed the other varies.
