Triumph Bonneville crankcase breather problems

Hi

The wife has a 2001 triumph bonneville and it goes great appart from one problem. The crankcase breather lets oil up through the pipe and into the airbox assembly. After a time the air filter will become soiled and it will begin to choke the engine. It also drips on the floor via the airfilter box overflow. Compression is ok and as i say it goes great. I heard somewhere that they may have had a problem with a seal in the breather assembly arround this time ? Anyone know anything about this problem or where it may be more appropriate to ask the question? Thanks :-)

FWIW i had the same problem with my TLS..........air filter soaked and eventually fireing it out of airbox....the cure for mine was just a bigger breather box with wire mesh inside........not sure what system yours has but as above i would get in touch with a Triumph owners group and see what they have to say...................

From looking about it doesn't appear to be an unknown issue and from what I can see it was supposed to be dealt with under warranty. I'd pop into a dealer to see what could be done and if the warranty mods have been carried out.

Thats cause I only popped in to this thread in case it was a real bonne (no offence) having breather problems..

Can you block off were the breather tube enters the air box and attrach a tube or use the existing tube if long enough to the crankcase breather with small filter if need be that runs into a separate container? Just use tieraps to locate as required.

SuperCheap Auto Spares may have a suitable filter and hose clamps. Para rubber or any hardware outlet such as Mitre 10 may have suitable pungs for the airbox.
