Hello

Probably Australia is not our Continent! :-(
After all the problems ar the beginning with Evas and my motorbike, we are thinking, that my engine is fucked now! Sorry for that bad word, but thatīs how they say it here in Australia.
Strange metallic noise is coming from the bottom of the engine.
To rebuild this engine at 250.000 km makes for us not much sense. It is too expensive and will take too much of our time we have left to see New Zealand

We just wanted to ship the bikes, when the problems started.
Here in Australia it is impossible to get a new used engine for a Yamaha XT 600
We can’t get an engine here in Australia, maybe you know somebody in New Zealand
We want to come to NZ with our bikes as soon as possible!!

The other option is, to come only with one bike and to buy or rent another second hand bike, may you have any solution for that??

Best wishes from Melbourne

contact without the big letters!!!

I'm gobsmacked...confronted with a gale of teutonic angst...Neitzche would be proud.

I don't have a spare motor...sorry

Will a 1990 motor fit a 1986 frame?

I think they're pretty much the same right through, give or take a starter .My 2001 looks the same as an 85 except for the kick vs electric. Certainly wouldnt be hard ot make it fit.

But you've already GOT about 5 motors. And one surely only needs putting togeher? What happened to the 500 special ? I thought is was just asembly and all the "Oh I never thought of that stuff"

(It's on MY watch list too - bugger off all of you or we'll end up running the bidding up to something rediculous)

But it has been pushed so far down my to do list it will be next year before I can look at it again.I figure with a complete going engine I would get it up and running in a couple of days....then I can ride again!

Hi El Dopa,
yes every engine from 1990 from a XT 600 will fit.
or a Tenere from 1986-1991.
So ist it in Germany

Thanx for your help

The ign is different on '86 engines,and you can't change flywheels - been there,done that.....or at least couldn't do that.An '86 engine won't fit into my '92.

Hi there,

some of you have a strange humour,
but anyway

In Germany every engine from a XT 600 with kick or electric starter from 1990 or later will fit in an engine of the XT 600 Tenere with Kick and Electric starter (1986-1991)

It is probably different here down under, same as the humour ;-)

More informations here,

http://xt600.de/xt_werkstatt/+technische-referenz/-motorwechsel/index.htm

but only in german, but you can try a translationservice

Hey, hopefully NZ will be your lucky country! After all, you get to stay with us - but you may not think that is so lucky when you meet us! (You can always ask all the other Germans what we are like - including et-wa - Tanja and Christian!)

Hurry up and get here before summer does a disappearing trick again!

There were no bids on the the XT600 motor,so I have got it for myself.I did some more reshearch to find the years for important changes. The head was redisigned in 1987,widened the two head stud spacings and lengthened the bolts. In 1989 the XT600E came out,and the kickstart XT600K carried on to 1995.But I get the rest of the crap too,and the wiring,so will be able to make it work anyway.

I hope you find a motor - but if one is offered you need to move on it.
