Suzuki TF185 clutch and shaft.

OK, this is my first post here, so please let me know if I have not followed the proper channels.

I have a 1980 TF185 which had been sitting in a shed for a couple of years after a clutch shaft failure.

It was stripped to find the problem and then shunted to the side and the parts had disappeared before I got it.

Needless to say it was a well priced purchase and has been kept as a bit of a project.

Last weekend I was donated a complete motor/box for parts, so started by stripping the cover off tonight to work out how deep I had to go to swap the parts over, I have to swap over the complete clutch pack and the gear behind it (and possibly the shaft they are on as well).

Does anyone have a copy of a workshop or parts manual for one? I just need an exploded view so I can work out how it comes to bits, or advice would be fine as well.

I'm not a novice but would be keen on some advice so I don't have to learn by mistake.

Welcome to the nuthouse firstly :done:

pretty straight forward job with the TF :yes:

if your using new clutch plates or one that haven't been used for a while soak them over night in oil before fitting them :yes: and make sure if they're old ones that they aren't damaged or warped either.

Awesome, thanks for that, can you explain how the outer cover for the clutch pack comes off? It has a series of springs visable in the pic I posted, do they need to come out? or is the centre shaft the first thing, if so how?

Once you have the plates out, the rest should be obvious. If you are not sure of things, take a photo of each bit before you pull it apart. Digital cameras have many uses...

Update time.

I now have a 1980 TF/TS 185 Suzuki :second:

I decided it was a hassle to strip the whole case to swap one shaft, and the TS case that I got as a donor, had the tacho drive already in the case.
It was just a simple swap of the barrel and piston off the TF onto the TS case.
After I had put the clutch back together on the TS anyway:doh:

So it's up and running again, but without electrics, more on that in another post under the electrical section:crazy:

hey if your looking for any exploded views of bike assemblies go to www.bikebandit.com they are a company in the USA and have parts for many different bikes and i have found that the ts185 drawings are the same for the tf185 I hope this helps

I actually swapped to a good mate of mine, he has been committing some time to getting back up and running, I go and visit it from time to time, so at the moment, the best for it in the long run ;)
