Anything can be done, it's just a matter of wether or not it's worth it. Those motors are a bit hard to come by, so if you have one, it would be a better idea to buy a blown up 400 complete bike, or sell it for the fortune ya could get, and put the money towards something else.

My opinion only, and it's usually ignored:yes:

i can get the engine easy, and fairly cheap, just wondering if anyone has done it or know of anyone that has.

Im sure it could be done. But you would probably have to be very handy with the welder to make some new mounts, maybe they will be the same. But after you have got the engine, done the work ( even worse, paid for someone to do the work for you, ) got the electrics sorted ( Maybe need a CBR400 CDI ) and everything, it could quite possibly be cheaper just buying a CBR400?

True but imagine the look on the 600 riders face....

Heard it bolts straight in, or maybe thats only on a ZXR.

mmm i guess the only way is to see if the engine mounts are the same.
Also why not do it if it bolts in?? :)

Go ahead and do it if it bolts in. But check that before you go buy the engine, and also, will all the electrics from the 250 cross over to the 400? You will need to find that out first.

would make a pretty cool learners bike too! well perhaps not cool and too fast but yes imagine the look on the face as you kain past a few "fast" riders.

how much bigger are the outside dimentions of the CBR400 engine compared to the 250 though?

i already have a cbr400rr, the engine is good and so are the electrics execpt the cdi.
The rest of the bike is not worth much hahaha. Mite try and sus it out this weekend.

Old gsxr250 and impulse 400 frames are the same. I dropped a 400 into my 250 frame with only having to grind the 2 mid engine mounts off

It all comes down to what motor / frame models you have.
NC23 will go into some 250 frames but an NC 29 wont go into any as far as i can work out. (mounts are all completely differant)
NC 29s are a slower and heavier bike anyhow and almost none of it will interchange with an NC 23.
Choose carefully for an easy conversion or choose badly with a gas torch and a mig welder :shit: .
Cheers Paul.

Personally I'd be leaving the 250 as a 250, those things are worth stupid money, and you'd just be pissing it away by putting a 400 motor into it. Having owned a 250RR and a 400RR, there's not that big a jump in the performance.
Why not just get the 400 running? Then you'll have two bikes.

im sure a 250 with 400 engine would fetch a pretty penny to some "bulletproof" earner:shutup:

The only reason you say that Gav is that your 400 was rather slow :dodge: :scooter: lol.
Us faster 400's would say that there is a BIG jump in performance.
Now where is that 600 motor for the 400 frame ???? 85 BHP anyone !!!:shit:

That was true. I got it running on 4 after the weekend you blew me away, it was still pretty average. My 250 was a quick one though.
