Anita Buxton has ridden her way into the record books by becoming the first female rider to win an international motorcycle road race in the British Isles.

Her record breaking victory came in the 400cc category race at the Ulster Grand Prix, held on the world famous Dundrod circuit, near Lisburn, County Antrim. Buxton, riding a Kawasaki ZXR 400, held off the challenge of Belfast’s Joe Phillips, by just .1 of a second.

“I’m delighted’’ she said “but it really hasn’t sunk in yet. I’ve seen the highlights on the television and it still doesn’t seem real.”

Buxton maintained an average speed of 104.198 mph
