I wonder if they'll let us down the Luge in our motorcycle gears? http://www.skylineskyrides.co.nz/rotorua/

Be a chance to test people's real ridng skills (not their bike's performance).

haha nearly broke my arm on the luge a few years back on the "adventure" trail!! it was awesome!!! think they have since closed that track down and they only running the "scenic" route these days which is like a ride down sh1 from whangarei to waipu :P (minus the popo)

Well.

This is so sad :(:(

No brackets for Stephen's TL.
Soooooooooooo, we can't come down.

But hopefully by the AGM he will actually have at least one bike going!!!!!!!

Also, my auntie is going to have a baby tomorrow (or Saturday) and i really want to meet him.

He will be a ducati boy (she takes him out to the shed to listen to his dad's bike even though he isn't born yet)

So have fun the people who are going.
And Bomma, BEHAVE yourself :spanking:

kay, full stomach now.

Had to work till about 3 in the afternoon saturday, so i left around 3:30. SH2 was raining so went through miranda where all the :sunny: was. Went almost to the coromandel township then turned off some side road and ended up in tauranga somehow  :2thumbsup. Took SH36 then SH29 into rotorua, raining the whole way and lots of fog and some roadworks on SH29, down to 40~60km/hr due to the fog. Landed in rotorua about 7pm I think, about an hour behind the others.

Sunday was a bit of a blur for me, I remember breakfast :first: and lunch :second: i think we went whakatane~tauranga~miranda~auckers. Started raining cats and dogs about 10ks from where we got on SH1, still raining, I like the rain :calm:

Ride was super. Lots of fun great scenery. We rode appox. 8 hours from Auckland to Rotorua as we travelled along the coast line Clevedon, Kaiaua, Miranda, Kopu, Whangamata, Waihi, Katikati, Tauranga, Matata, Whakatane then Rotorua. About 4 hour we were riding in the rain.

Road was reasonably quiet with not many cars but came across alot of touring bikers Suzuki Bandits 1250 and Honda VFR800 I noticed. Lots of action happened along the way like rear brake not working, bald tyre (hence skidding), our hands were blue black when we reached our accommodation, etc etc. Nish also had a Brokeback Mountain moment I think haha!! :bleh: just joking

Saw a total of 3 cop :Police: cars in their brand new Holdens driving in the opposite direction. Was a great ride and we covered about 850km's. Great views and we stopped at a few lakes and Nish reckons the lake was so quiet and misty as though we were watching a horror movie scene haha. I even saw a couple hugging and kissing while standing on a railway track  unless my eyes are playing tricks on me.

On our way back we stopped at a beachside in Mt. Maunganui. Beautiful sunshine and lots of attractions to see :msn-wink:

But yeah it was a fun tiring ride but well worth it. Thanks Isaac for arranging this trip. Nish, James, Mei you all been great during the trip. Lots of jokes, beers....cheers all....we should do this again.

edit: Thanks also to EJ and Hong for tagging along with us to Kaiaua...hope you guys had fun....

Nah mate we kept on going we had no where to stop and we were soaked when we got to Rotorua.

Hey Nish, I check and I did 378km's (before the fuel reserve kick in) on my tank and that was the distance coming back from Rotorua to Auckland. Talk about fuel efficiency.

HungusMaximist
23rd September 2007, 19:57
^ fark, the blimming Guzzi is yapping that fuel like as if it's a 250. It's good to own a V-Twin aye, I use to have a V Twin 250 and I get around a good 350 km-400 km on a full a tank <- the Hobag Comet GT250 back in Melbourne.

How big is the tank and how fast are you guys doing overall? Like fast fast or fast or nana.

Cheer.

Hey ya'll

Phew, what a ride eh? I don't think I've sat in the saddle for that long ever before (luckily I have a Corbin leather seat).

I think Kim summed up the trip pretty well, Sat was a long, but awesome slog. We were spared the rain till we hit the Coromandel ranges which was a bummer cause that's where some of the best sweepers were.

Despite all of the wicked scenary and corners, by 6pm on Sat evening (after a full day of riding) I was pretty happy to pull into our accommodation. Few beers in the hot pools, bit of Burger Fuel for dinner and a few yarns...

Accomm was sweet apart from the resident rooster announcing the Sunday morning dawn. (Those steamy windows and pulled curtains came from the boys cabin I think....).

Ride back was a bit more subdued but heaps better weather. We took a slightly shorter route through the Waihi gorge and then back through Miranda again in to Akl (but not around Kawakawa Bay).

Like Kim said, only a couple of cops spotted (big surprise considering the 800-odd kms travelled. I saw those two people hugging on a railway track too, but I don't think it was some twisted shannagins, maybe an accident scene?

Saw a local sitting on his horse outside the local convenience store just out of Whakatane.

Happy that the RF uses less gas than the Ninja!! But yeah, I overheated my rear brake trying to burn the Ninja off and had to rest it for 10 minutes while it cooled off.

Anyways, photos speak for themselves and due to popular demand, we will definetely be holding another similar ride after your guys exams.

Sweet, cheers guys for coming along and everyone else for following the thread.

How big is the tank and how fast are you guys doing overall? Like fast fast or fast or nana. Cheer.

The tank is 23 litres. When I reached in front my place the reserve light just came up so I reckon the 378km's is on 18 litres of fuel. We were travelling on experience riders speed bro. Haha you know what that means...

Haha was nice to see that the GN250 beat the ZX7R on the bends :gob:... whoops

(Those steamy windows and pulled curtains came from the boys cabin I think....)

hey all,
looks like this threads been going off!! yea it was an awesome ride and we had heaps of fun!! so cheers to isacks..ooops i mean isaac  for organising it!!

just to let you all know james DID beat me around the corners on his GN (i swear hes a demon on that thing):weep: if you read one of kims posts a couple of pages back he mentioned bald tyres.....yea that was my rear he was referring to  i was going good in the dry (isaac will verify that wont ya bud :2thumbsup) but after the road got wet and the rain started to come down (at which point i was still unaware of the baldness of my tyre) a few skids and slides forced me to take the corners like a grandma!!!

isaac mate you are an awesome rider!! cant believe how hard you were going two up!!! im pretty sure ur pack rack could count as another "mei" so you were THREE-UP!!! and yes the rf is better on the gas than my ninja but only just...we were neck and neck till the last leg :P

we'll hit the ranges to whangamata one day in the dry and i'll give you a run for your money

cheers for james, kim and mei for coming along too and making the trip a whole lot of fun!!! oh and if you guys ever stop over at whangamata then try the smoked fish pie!! ITS AWESOME!!!! :2thumbsup

Alls I remember is you overtook me on the road to Miranda, lead for one corner and then missed the next 55kph corner and went down a side street!!!!! It was the funniest shit I've seen in a long time! The rest of us riders went past you as you were attempting to do a U-turn and get back on the right road again.

But yeah, for the sake of a man's pride, 'Ol Bomma did have a near-slick rear and until it started raining had been riding exceptionally well through the twisties. As mentioned, I overheated my brakes trying to outrun / keep up with him.

I'd love to have a blat with Stevo, Nish and Kim once everyone's bikes are sorted (bloody cheap-ass students with broken bikes) and when I don't have Mei on the back

Edit:

(And Ewen and James and Andrew, but not Chris, he's mad :)

^that was a dodgy piece of road man!!! i came flying out of the first corner and there's a road straight ahead which is the first thing you see and a 55kph speed sign pointing left and the actual road veers off to the left....

i gave her a heap of gas coming out of the corner coz i saw the straight bit first and then realised!!! im surprised people didnt follow me in!! i know kim was thinking about it ;)

I remember when we were at the traffic lights on the way out of Mt Maunganui. The gucci beat you two in acceleration when the traffic light turned green. woohoo!! The gucci even did a wheel spin/skid at one of the traffic lights. Yeah hope I got some gravel on your visor Bomma. Wonder did the hot ladies in the car saw me haha.

Well Mei is always welcomed on my bike Isaac. haha  Yeah Bomma making the mistake going straight was funny good thing there weren't oncoming traffic. I woke up today and I am feeling my sore arms from riding the gucci. Spent 2 hours cleaning the gucci up and polishing the chrome hard work....nice and clean now

The course has changed since I did it, but aren't there two schools of thought on that?

An awesome idea vs an awesome team / bunch of people.

Apparently in the real world, venture capitalists are more likely to back a B-grade idea but an A-grade team than the visa-versa.

damn that brings back memories....that was such a wishy-washy paper from my analytical analyse everything way of thinking from engineering

i vaguely remember that argument/lecture.

and yeah i think the assignment is different. my first essay was on "profile of an entrepreneur"

sweeeet thats a really good angle to argue the question!!! ill see how that angle goes and it sounds pretty easy to argue and easy to make it convincing....thanks isaac!!!

i was gonna try and prove that ultimately a good idea is much more likely to succeed than a crappy idea but had no idea where to start!!!:wacko:
