I have just bought an old 1981 XL250S and would like to give it a quick oil change. Does anyone know exactly how much oil to use as i have just drained the engine and measured around 2 litres. This seems too much, based on the other bikes i have owned. Also, when using the dip-stick, should the bike be on the side stand or in an exact upright position?

Thanks for the help.

My new XR250L is dry sump so no comparison really but it holds 1.8 litres roughly. 2 litres for the old engine may be right I just can't remember back that far. Honda way of measuring oil is bike exactly upright but dipstick taken out and just sat back in touching the threads and not screwed in at all - i.e. touch it in and pull it out again and fill it to the high mark.
