View Full Version : Clutch is stuck after bike sat for 3 months

The gosh darn clutch is stuck, after the bike sat unused for three months since I broke my arm.

I can see the first clutch plate disengage, but the others seem to be firm, they don't want to disengage by themselves. ( I can see them through the oil filler cap)

How do I free them? Run it in first gear then pull the clutch in? Um... what else could I try?

Maybe the oil just needs to seep in. I just did an oil change after it had sat for three months, now they are bathed in oil.

It's an old KLR250.

You didn't tighten the clutch lever bolt too tight did you? - Just randomly

Nup. Thanks for the contribution though. It was fine when I got it the three months ago, it's just from sitting for that long.

Aha! Freed it.

I started it,
got it rolling down the hill,
kicked it from neutral into first,
then pulled the clutch in,
gave it heaps of revs,
and it broke free.

Huzzah! Monday I will get a warrant and a new helmet, and I'll be back on a bike for the first time since November.

Hey steam. A little trick I learned --get it hot and dump the oil.
Put fresh oil in and then leave the bike overnight with the clutch lever strapped hard to the handgrip.
