You don't ever have to 'do' the valve timing, unless the motor is disassembled. Do you mean check the valve clearances ?

Very easy, just need some of the gap-feelers, just $5 from supercheap. And a manual. Did you get a manual yet?

I found the manual was sort of tricky to find - I dug it up in the Auckland City Library reference section. The manual was '80s but the engine hasn't changed. Valve clearance is very easy to do, if you want I'll try to find what I photocopied as that should have clearence and methods in it.

According to this site (http://www.wjsuzuki.com/doce/cp2.htm), the clearances are Inlet :0.03-0.08mm, Exhaust:0.08-0.13mm. I assume those are service limits or something, so set them in the middle of the range.

Its a pretty easy job -just make sure you do it on the correct piston position

Just a case of taking the caps off - 2 x 2 small bolts - then set the clearances with a screwdriver and spanner. Push the bike in 5th gear to a point where the rocker is at its 'loosest' point. Real simple :done:
