Cam chains

My cam chain needs done on Kawasaki GPX 250 ninja, so do you have to pull the engine half apart or can you attach new chain to old chain and feed it through? :mellow: Its double overhead cam too. Anyone got any ideas apart from taking it to the bike shop.:no:

Hanne had one done for her zzr, cost her $170 to have it done (not including the parts ~$200), but that was by a friendly mechanic who did a good deal.

He fitted an endless, which involved taking off the rocker cover, removing the cam, taking off the side cover, removing the clutch, removing some funky shaped cover piece that covers the chain over the gear at the bottom, putting the new chain on, feeding it up, cam back in... put all back together...

I'm pretty sure you can just attach the new one to an old one and feed it through. Does the new one have a master link?. You'll need to find out how to back off the tensioner though, otherwise it will be a bit tricky to do it up!

You can run new one in by splitting old one. --Ye need to remove cam chain tensioner and redo the cam timing --pretty straight forward really

The GPX250 cam chain is accessible from the right hand side without splitting the crankcases. Anyone who splits a cam chain when they don't need to deserves all they stand to risk getting.
