Sounds like leaking compression once the engines off. Start from the top and work down maybe? Whip off the head and take a look at what condition the cylinder head gasket is in.

Double points if you can figure out where the sshh is coming from

:woohoo:do i get double points?
now for the bad news.
the spark plug on number one cilinder was only screwed in about 1 turn and has been x threeded so i think i got it in strait after some frigging around and now runs sweet.
is there a way i can rethread the hole without taking the head off.

Not really, a helicoil requires the hole to be drilled, tapped and then helicoiled. This will put metal shavings in your engine if you leave the head on :buggerd:

Just take it off, its not a big deal

Now there ya be wrong. The secret is to use grease on the thread tool.
You do about 4 turns at a time and clean the tool.-then add more grease
The swarf naturally tries to take the easiest route so it goes to the indents in the tool and works its way up and out.
Very much a case of gently gently catchee monkey but Ive had a lot of success using this method.
Hey look at it this way--so some swarf drops down into the engine. So ya hafeta haul the head off. You're no worse off than you were
