So me and my mate had just gone up at Info Commons Level 3 last night 2 study. Had jumped on our computers for about 5 mins when the "above-average" sized ic lady comes up and makes a grand announcement that there had been many complaints that people in our area had been talking and that we had to leave. I mean WTF right!!! So i explained to her that it couldnt possibly be us as we had only just gotten there to her reply of "I dont care".:stupid:

so we go outside and she came out a couple of mins after and looked at her and said "nice power trip". At this point she went off her nut at me. and we exchanged some words :argue:Cries of "YOU THINK IM POWERTRIPPING?!?!? IM DOING MY JOB!!!" "IC RULES BLAH BLAH BLAH" "COME TALK TO MY SUPER!!!" watever lady go :buggerd: yourself.....the one bit of power she has and she abuses it by :spanking: us decent students :nono:

like uncle ben said "With great power comes great responsibility"....anyways, i just thought everyone should know where our university fees are being pumped.......

there had been many complaints that people in our area had been talking and that we had to leave.Heres how to fix that. Tell her "NO" and don't flinch, and then get back to work. Let her scream her fucken nut off all she likes, even let her call the police, theres nothing she can "DO" about it.

Stop being a wooss and say "NO". Remember not to flinch and then ignore her completely.

Some dickhead at the pools tried this with me last week.. ranted and screamed and I told him "NO" and he screamed to me to "GET OUT OR I'LL CALL THE COPS" so I shrugged and told him to go do that, and I ran back up the hydroslide steps. Five minutes later I had the pool manager apologising to me profusely. Hrm she was pretty too..

Stand up to people. Tell them "NO". There isn't a fucking thing they can do about it.

BTW, make sure you are right though.

unfortunately for us, students arent seen as paying customers so we get fucked over and over....i was scared she'd sit on me so in fear for my life i left and plus i ACTUALLY didnt want to make noise and disturb the others as i know how important it is to have silence when trying to study!!! me and my mate ended going down to level 2 and discussing the material anyway so i didnt care too much about losing the compy on level 3....but the principle stays and we got fucked!!! :buggerd:

Learn to say "NO". Try it, it works and its fun too. Don't flinch. Don't discuss. First person who talks after the "NO" will lose. Simply turn back to what you were doing and let her rant to herself. Really. When she screams threats, tell her to "go for it" LMAO. TRY not to break out laughing at her please, coz she might knife you or something, hahahaha.

Hee hee, try it - NO.

Seriously though, "NO" is a great life skill. One day you WILL have to say it - might as well be earlier than later.

Good grief, students actually wanting to work and study? Dang, things have changed since I was last there ... anything more than a C- meant you were working to hard!

I remember whole weeks when I missed out on lectures and tutorials ... and many a great hour spent passing playing cards or boardgames or RPGs in the commons.

The last incident I could remember involving servers was when a group of us were playing a LAN game and a huffy stuffed shirt comes in and begins to check all the computer screens (we had all gone to legitimate work by the time he got around to us ) ... nothing he could do, as soon as he turned around we were all back at it again :2thumbsup

Not as if we were doing anything wrong, nobody waiting to use computers ...

But yep, when you know your right, your right ... stand your ground and just go ahead and do what you wanted to do.

WTF!. That's just ridiculous. If anyone did that to me, I would tell them to "F" off since I'm paying to use the damn facility. How the fuck does it matter whether I use the screen or not and possibly the dude could have just been using the screen and reading his books. Talk about tyrannical behaviour. the ic guy went back and got security to handle him.."security" is not allowed to "handle" you. Thats an assault. They can "ask" you to leave, but while its a public place and they have no authority to force you to do anything. Not even the police can remove you from a public place while you are not under arrest. Its the law. Tell "security" to call the police, OR ELSE YOU WILL. Take their photo, or video them with your camera or cellphone. Its perfectly legal to take someones photo, permission or not.

If THEY call the police, politely and quietly decline to discuss it with the police. Tell them you are legally entitled to be here, you know your rights, and you will now quietly and legally continue about your business, and then turn and do so.

A public citizen in a public place has rights. If the door is open for the purpose of the public to enter, then it is a public place. Stand up for your rights, but MAKE SURE YOU ARE RIGHT.

Be EXCEEDINGLY CAREFUL not to give them legal grounds. Be calm. Be quiet. Keep a witness with you, make sure they understand they should not leave. Calmly and quietly continue about your business. Make sure it is THEY who creates a disturbance, not you. Make certain your witness understands to decline to comment to the police.

Not nice, but sooner or later you have to stand up for yourself.

when they are off Uni property....met Mr. BaseBall bat...fuck yeah. I have had my time on the receiving end, and now I get real stupid real quick when I have just cause and there are no witnesses. Take care using such a weapon tho, you might kill someone... quite distasteful, and almost certainly not what you want. Mostly you can get even when the persons supervisor, as you can make a complaint with them after the incident, and make the perpetrator look a proper fool.

is uni grounds and the buildings on uni ground public property??A place opened to the public for their general or specific-purpose use is a public place. Unless you have been told otherwise by a sign, or in writing, or on privately owned property with a trespass order, then you are entitled to be there provided you are not breaking the law, or can be easily construed as breaking the law.

If you are walking down a public street, NO PERSON can tell you you should not be there, not even the police. They can ASK you to go elsewhere, but they cannot force you to, unless you are obstructing them in the course of their work, or disobeying some road law or other law, then they can fine or arrest you for it, but they cannot remove you unless you are under arrest, and mostly the feds dont want the paperwork and the comeback unless they KNOW it will stand up in a court of law, so they will hesitate at arresting you and just tell you "look mate, piss off!", and which point you tell them "no" again, lol.

It doesnt matter greatly anyways what is legal or not, just tell them what YOU want to happen and usually you can bluff it past them. Its all just a game.

Uni campus is Private property, if they ask you to leave, and you refuse, they have the right to escort you off the premises using reasonable force if necessary.

Don't believe me? Check your university ID, it is what entitles you to be on the premises. At any time they can ask you for your ID, and should you fail to provide it to them, they can escort you off campus, forceably if you refuse

unfortunately the kate edgar building is in no way a public place. several people DO infact have tresspass noticed against them, if asked and unable to show student ID you WILL be escorted from the premises, and the area of the uni owned by AUSA actually won't allow police on the premises unless invited

and of course they can disable your computer account for a week or more, effectively ruining you if you can't retrieve files before a deadline
