When: first week of semester holidays...whichever is sunny.

Where: I'd like to go to taupo, I hear it is a nice ride down there and I've never really been, only shot through.

It'll be an overnighter, meet up, go for a ride touch down in taupo in time for some kipper and a beer and a bit of a chill then leisurely get up the next day and ride wherever, back to auckland if people want or maybe detour to another town for another night. Anyone keen? Ride will be noob friendly..really cos I'm a noob haha. *it's alright to say that on here, if anyone says noob in real life then your a tool...same goes for pwned*.

I've been planning pretty much the same. Leave Friday. Get back Sunday. Not quite decided where yet, maybe Wellington.

Sounds good, prefer it in middle of the week and 1st week coz I have things on weekends...

We could use backpackers I used to stay when I went to Ski-trip with my mates.

Yeah but other people have things during the week, so it's a catch-22 choice really.

And the bars are more lively int he weekend anyway. ;)

I'm taking a cage trip down to taranaki on the 11th.
If I had a bike I'd take it. >.<

I have work on the weekends but can shift my work around during the week, yeah banzai, I'm thinking mid week next week too, I'll also be going on a ride on saturday. Plan at the moment is to go to taupo, stay the night there, then onto wellington where we can chill for a day, they have some great beer and then back up to auckland the next day.

Well, you've got the destination somewhat sorted (or atleast as sorted as uni boys get it).

How about the journey? Surely not SH1..

i will need to go to wellington via hamilton sometime in the next two weeks

might drop either destination though, and may be pillioning the way there

ital916
27th August 2008, 19:52
Well I thought I would put a heads up on here as riding with at least one other person will be nice, if no one is keen then I will solo it...I'm not too fussed. A good opportunity to ride instead of meet and talk shit like most motorcyclists.

Zim_Invader
27th August 2008, 23:07
i'm down for a day long mid week ride (pref first week of hols), AND a friday to sunday wellington trip... gotta be down there in the second week for a friends 21st, and was considering doing teh ride down provided i had company.... so, if u keen to ride it down to wellington

so dates for day trip that i'm good for is either 3rd of 10th, both a wed...

and for the weekend trip, was hoping for 12 - 14. who else likes these dates? sorry, i know this would mean down to wellin and back the day before uni kicks back into its dull, life sucking, torturous, "learning institution"-'s excuse for ... action.

Timati/Zim: Depends when I get mah bike. Should be ~2 weeks away now. :D

sweet! that'd make 3 already... if andrew doesn't mind being pillion for a few stretches... i'm also fine with switching over with him... it'll give him a chnce to ride free, and not that i'm panzying out, but a break to soak in teh scenery is a good call for me too.... never gone past mt monganui, so am keen for a fw stretches as pillion... will find a camera, or if some1 has a camera, i'm good to take a few pics while pilioning.... but 1 thing's for sure, my bike is def not made for 2 guys to sit on... now as much of a fan of mobbing as i may be, 2 guys in such close proximity isn't so much fun... really un comfortable for a long ride too... (:buggerd:)

Zim_Invader
27th August 2008, 23:35
a solid riding crew i reckon...haha... did i say solid... for now, let's just stick to A CREW. haha. i'm still fresh on bikes, tho i'm sure jaffa's 100% now, and from what i heard timati's shith hot on wheels. haha... (better well be keeping to the "learner friendly" pace.... dont fly off at 160!

motorbyclist
27th August 2008, 23:37
if you guys plan this right you could pick me up from the wellington airport, take me to what i hope to be a new viffer, and then we all ride back

otherwise i'll just fly down at like 6am and be back in aucks late that night

PirateJafa
27th August 2008, 23:41
I'll drop into Cyclespot tomorrow and get a firm ETA on the bike. Or either Squiggles/Rob can wander over from Cycletreads and ask Cyclespot the ETA, so we know what we're dealing with. :)

just a quick check, other than andrew and ross (off the top of my mind) is there anyone else who can constitute a "fast" group??? im guessing kyle, ehab and dan will be keen to see how their new machines handle so they'll be zooming off with those two, stevo's prolly gonna be lead for the "slow" group and ill tec for a bit if i make it on the day.....

and yea the route you said is the route i was thinking of dushy, it's a fun one :niceone:

I'm keen to ride with you guys during mid-week (Monday to Thursday) so shall keep watching this thread if anything pops up. If you guys are just gonna do a long single day trip, I may carry on my self and do an over nighter mid week.

Happy to go 'medium' pace or slow - not bothered, but Ross is poor and overworked [Uni may stop, Profs does not, nor does grinding poverty], so a day trip might be possible, but not an overnighter - pref midweek or Sunday.

(Ross has even started referring to himself in the 3rd person, a sure sign of senility...)

This is turning into a talking shit thread..as per usual. I've looked at some routes. I'm thinking I'll follow the coast down to gisborne, fingers crossed the gorges will be open...then cut across from there maybe. I suck at nz geography. This trip is all weather and money dependant. If weather is shit I'll do one dayers out of auckland.

There'll be no running around picking up this, that and him/her. I'll meet up with kyle and stephen if they are keen to have a brainstorm. Also, I'm thinking on saturday I'm gonna head out coromandel way seeing as the weather is beautiful. Most likely a half coro.

Went ofr a ride today, bloody fantastic. I got all the sun and dry roads and then just as I got home it started raining haha. Had a few hairy moments...funnily enough on the motorway to westgate and on a straight piece of road caused by a truck driver on crack. Not a single problem in the twisties. Met lots of cool bikers and a cool triker.

Anyway the route in my head is sorted but alas this road trip is postponed as cash flow is nil..zip..nada due to unforseen crapola, this basically means..in about six to seven weeks..just as uni ends I shall do a massive trip..for my 21st, waddya guys reckon, a group of us riding around the country meeting as many people as possible, getting drunk with as many backpackers as possible to celebrate my big 21. Any way I wanna do lots of one dayers then...so monday...who's keen...state highway 22 then naruwagsahbdab for lunch then sh22 back, its got some sick as twisties, in generally good condition and is forgiving to learners and challenging enough for experienced riders. So pick up your balls, get some time of work and come ride you wusses.

Haha, heard alot of things about 22 but never heard the words 'forving' or 'good condition'.

I've ridden it a few times, lots of pea gravel everywhere, animals in the road, very tight twisties, roads broken to pieces with lots of mossey patches.

But it is a great ride, (not recommended for new people, IMO) unfortunately i'm out for perhaps the next 3 weeks.. burst an oil seal.

Okay I'll give you all of that but when I rode it, it was still fun as long as you keep your wits about you, don't ride into the holes and broken bits f road, anticipate the pea gravel, dodge the cows, prevent yourself from highsiding on cow shit and try not to die on the moss covered twisty bits haha.

tbh you'll be hard-fetched to do a day trip to taupo banzai....it'll be a bloody boring ride and if you plan on doing any of the fun routes, you'll probably end up having to leave very early and coming back very late.....unless you take sh1 in which case back to square one and itll be bloody boring

I am planning to leave very early, then either take SH1 to taupo, have hot spring then ride back through twisties or twisies, hot spring than SH1.

Or maybe do the day trip stuff that Toto did...

I just wanna travel NZ. So far I only been to Chch, Taupo and Kaiaua lol

mite pay to make it an overnighter....coz accomodation will only add on like $20-$30 and means you get to enjoy the trip a shitload more as opposed to being time restricted and also having to ride for a long period of time continuously....my 2 cents

hey banzai. i'm down for the ride to taupo tomorrow... only day i'm free for the rest of this week is tomorrow, so i'm down for the long wed ride... but would hope to be back in town by about half 5 if possible. so early leave? what time to meet at your place? any1 else keen?

if not taupo, mayb just a good trip to some place with some decents twists that'll kill a good portion of the day... im prob worse than u with the amount of nz travelling that i've done, so i'm all ears for a suggested route.

was a hard day of no riding... but at about 4, when the little rain that did fall had dried up (for the most), i took the bike out and headed into the general piha-type direction. little to no traffic along the scenic route. only did a short segment of it, as i had to head for some work in town there-after. went as far as arataki. was careful, as it was my first time biking that route, and managed to do an average "see teh speed limit for a bend, double it and MINUS ten". haha. sorry andrew, but not quite yet ready to go as far as u can.... but i'm working on it :D

all in all, it was fun... bigger rush that i expected! am keen to do it more often, seeing a it's a whloe five mins away (15 if u take the longer twistier route that goes past the house rather than the main streets)... good practice terrain!

haha +1. The correct term for the proper engineering version is acoustics engineering and it's actually pretty cool.

That would be designing rooms etc. Microphones and stuff comes under the other engineering specialties.

Well he's not talking about that, he's talking about audio engineering.

Which, IMHO, is a bloody silly thing to have in a BMus Comp. degree. The Queensland Conservatorium does the same thing, a big pain in the arse when you could be learning much more relevant things.

yeah we know that... just saying that "audio engineering" isn't engineering - it's just a wanky term for sound editing
