View Full Version : Ride 6th September - Coro loop/Kaiaua?

Jahdafario
3rd September 2008, 18:51
Hi All,

Just chucking it out there to find the interest, who's keen?

3 packs -

quick
medium
& scenic

if the scenic don't want to do the whole coro loop, they can just do kaiaua, we all end up getting to kaiaua anyway, but then the quick / med pack will obviously go towards koopu and the scenic can come or carry on around back through to the miranda turnoff and back up towards sh1.

Meet Uni gym 10.15am, leave 10.30-10.45am max

We expect to get around coro and back to auckland before 4pm, with short stops at autobahn, koopu, coro township, and a longer stop at coroglen for a feed,

I'm definately in for a med/quick blat to coro, and so are a few of my mates 2 r6's, 2 gsxr600's.

Anyone want to lead the scenic riders, and or med riders?
The quick pack is led by marcos with the well used valentine on his gsxr. 2 more leaders up for grabs,

post your interest if your keen to come, the more the metal! Mostly will be SMC people.

Peace

kaiaua is a pain to get to since kawakawa bay is closed, it'lll prob be better to go sh1, then sh2 then through miranda to kopu then the loop? Just putting it out there. The scenic riders should be able to do the half loop and come back through kopu hill and back in the city by four. I would lead the scenic riders but I'm going bike shopping/working on saturday so no can do.

btw I want to make sexy time with your bike:love:, she is puuurty

I might either lead or TEC for the scenic group. Need a good ride, but will be nana-ing around as I'm not on one of my own bikes. :)

i could be keen cuz, depends on whether or not i manage to get the oil and radiator fluids changed by the weekend....wouldnt mind being tec for slow group....not blowing my own horn (that's a job for members of the opposite sex) but it's prolly best to have experienced riders preferably on a bigger bike as tec imho

hey remember last summer I offered a Coro Loop Rescue Service

If you guys are out scrubbing in tyres and such, then write my number down and I will be available most days to do a mercy dash and get bikes home or back to my place or whatever is needed. Thunderbird 3 carries all the gear- tubes, tiedowns, tequilla, arnica cream! I will just pop into the odd Coro Loop thread and stick my bit out over the summer!

wat an amazing day!!! hehehe glad i woke up in time (10.15) and managed to catch up wif some of the fullas just after the autobahn. roads were in mint condition, day was mint, bikes were mint, company was mint, food was mint and it was just ABSOLUTELY.........MINT :D cheers all for the ride and good to see that the weather is slowly but surely getting better!!

ehab, i was impressed with how well you kept your head about ya mate. it's easy to get overwhelmed by the power and lured by the prowess of the bigger bike, but you were riding smart and taking good lines :niceone:

steve - nice bike matey!! good of you to come along and play charlie for the better part of the ride :2thumbsup hope to see your baby (and yourself) on more of the upcoming rides

dan - you're getting better and better man!! considering the short time you have had your bike, you take (mostly) intelligent lines and don't do too much dumshit  but just get onto your mate and hit him up about riding smarter aye

kyle - glad i got to ride with ya dude!! the hornetto is an amazing bike huh?? :scooter:

toto and friend (cant rememba name) - was good to have you guys along and more hornets the better!! you guys did awesome keeping up and set a blistering pace!! more rides yea??

Just before we left Choco saw that some critycal bolts in the chain area were almost fallen off, so we tightened them. I guess Loosebruece and DSS were looking after you ay Choco :)

hey bro, gutted you couldn't make the ride as it was an amazing day to be out n about  you would have been good company for ben but dont think you would have kept up....i never realised how hard that lil gpx goes but on open road it's got the vtr beat hands down.....tbh start with smaller rides and also go on adventures on your lonesome!! learn heaps and there's no pressure to go amazingly hard

comments i heard from saturday's ride (anonymous but those who said it know who they are)

true that. so very true. as i'd have expected in a ride with u all. was there a learner paced group, or just the single, quick mob.

oh, def. haha. the gpx has top end way beyond the vtr. plus with all the wind thrashign the vtr, going above 135 is freaky!!! u feel it really kick in at about 125 or so...(or what i think to be a higher level of wind resistence anyway). so i know what u mean. i'd have struggled. but the ride with company would be nice some time... i'll do a lot more trips to kare kare and pha to build my twisty skill. then mayb i'll have enought to keep up with the gpx on turns, if not straights... think shingo's keen for a ride tomorrow, i'll txt him and see what happens there.

yea i remember the one ride i went on with the vtr where i was tryna keep up with a firestorm....sweet around corners but as soon as we got straight roads, he disappeared. or everytime there was a bit of traffic that everyone else passed with no effort was a major bitch on the vtr!!! but she was awesome :love: i recommend the ride to wellsford, good combination of twisties, without too many straights and it's not far from home so can be in and out real quick (just the way you like it aye zim ;)) hehe oh and fuck all traffic to hold you back and no assholes crossing the centreline like the piha trip:2guns:

ya, tell me about it. first u have the teenage pricks that think it's cool to drive with a 30cm gap between your tail and their bumper. or that try to boost it when u move to overtake.... the idiots... on teh bright side, i never saw a car disappear that quickly before - in my rear view mirror... bless the bends! haha. welsford aye... if i ride out tomorrow with shingo, i'll run that plan through him. sounds like some ample learning grounds! cheers!!!

hahaha.. fuckin aye! u said buddy! hahah... it's all about efficiency. knock as many down as you can while u got the time and energy! haha.

ya, tell me about it. first u have the teenage pricks that think it's cool to drive with a 30cm gap between your tail and their bumper. or that try to boost it when u move to overtake.... the idiots... on teh bright side, i never saw a car disappear that quickly before - in my rear view mirror... bless the bends! haha. welsford aye... if i ride out tomorrow with shingo, i'll run that plan through him. sounds like some ample learning grounds! cheers!!!

Just so you know, weather forecast for tomorrow(well, today) aint looking to flash. I'm keen for a trip to piha or similar if it clears up for a couple hours, but i dont think we will be able to fit a trip up to wellsford in and not get wet.

wifey and i did the loop on saturday too.
we stopped at Thames to check out the market first before heading upo that way and doing a clockwise lap.
Lots of small groups of bikes in both directions but no big groups we could see even while stopped at the Coroglen for an hour or so.

I was surprised (pleasantly) that there was not a single cop or radar squeak on the whole trip from Sth Auck and back.

Bloody good day it was.

Those furry wet brown moisture streaks across the road?

Luckily there weren't any flowing steams of water on the road when we did it (as the road was pretty much already wet), but we did see like small waterfalls running across the cliffs when we were deep in the ranges on our way back along 25A.
