Straighten bars & fit to VTR

I always have bits to do....

perhaps it would pay to install some new angry eyebrows on the TL in order to sell it faster and increase the value?

oh, while i remember, and have a good photo for the auction (attached)

if you look veeeeery carefully it shows the scratches - add trademe compression and it isn't false advertising :bleh:

Squiggles

Mint, I need some more angry eyebrows... so does the VTR before it goes back to Ross...

Add that to the list: Straighten slightly off Bars & fit to VTR

^Here's a challenge for you dudes, see if you can fit the sidecar back into the shed. Like one of those balancing kiwi puzzles. And arrange for a magician to use the XS in a magic trick (isn't the inorganic collection on atm?):P

BTW, doesn't the DR have to be serviced by Suzuki to keep under warranty though??

Hope you have fun. - Hanne

OOh, a magic trick on the xs sounds great. I don't think they'd take it in the inorganics tho...

Heh, you actually went and changed your location before posting.

Since squiggz hasn't posted yet, I believe he said something about finding out what would be covered under warranty, and some stuff they don't want him servicing but like changing oil is fine. Might be wrong.

PirateJafa
4th April 2009, 03:32
All the servicing on the DR that needs to be done by the dealer is just the valves.

We might be thar.

Yo all... This Would've been great, if i'd seen it earlier! I've been so swamped with work and the house, and my applications for aviation lately that i've barely been able to keep up with kb.

I got some really sad news, which will prob add to the reasons that have been holding me back from any kb-related activity.

The vtr's front disk is warped, i think. It's bad enough that if i ride the bike, the caliper up front starts to bob up n down (or well, rather left n right), and makes a sound as it does so. The day it started happening, i stopped bye at Wild West Honda, and spoke to Don. He said that teh front brake disks needed to be replaced, and that becoz there's uneven wear on them, (the left being more worn out than the rght), it's forced the wheel to tilt slightly. My guess is it's something that's just happened over a long period of time. In any case, i used the service manual and Youtube, to figure out how to remove the caliper and replace teh brake pads. (Easy enough). So, i went on to change the pads, as Don advised, but the caliper still moves and makes that noise - which is why i think it's teh disk.

Help!!:bye:

I haven't taken the bike out since don told me to replace the pads, becoz i know it'd cause more damage and is too dangerous (so been busing around - and it sucks!). I think that, at some point the caliper or the base of the brake pad was scraping the disk slightly too.

So, any chance some1 could come bye and take a look? and Jaffa, i may end up needin the bike-trailer-paramedic to swing bye and save my vtr! (or take it to squiggs' place, or the one of the bike places that can fix her up for me.

Yep - have a wee play on the VTR and FXR if you like.

Both great bikes (The VTR is a more 'polished' bike than the FXR which is built to a price - but is WAAAAY better than it has any right to be)

I've got no idea why it won't start, everything should be there. Gah.

It's why you should get a naked bike first. They do low/zero speed drops with zero-minimal damage - unlike anything with tupperware :shit:

They all stay away haha.

motorbyclist
5th April 2009, 23:48
electrical problems are the worst

meanwhile it turns out my hard drive is well and truly dead. apparently seagate made a bad batch of drives with didgy firmware. long story short, my drive is now an expensive paperweight safely containing a lot of data i'd rather like to have access to, and my server, which contains all the really important backups i have, is going to fail soon unless i get around to giving it a firmware upgrade after backing it all up to my- oh wait that's right my desktop hard drive is dead so i need to recover that first:rolleyes:

fortunately, seagate offer a free data recovery service to affected customers (and i'm still within warranty too), but i'm yet to find out how long it will take as their call centre is open only during business hours:dry:

atleast skynet is handling it's newfound role well, hooked up to a monitor, mouse, keyboard etc until the desktop machine is up and running again

You guys need moar RAID!

I had RAID once. That didn't work too well.

Damn ye Squiggles.

Slyer
6th April 2009, 10:57
Your raid was destined to fail from day 1.
A: It was a software RAID
B: It was using linux, which requires you to be running linux in order to access it
C: you were using a big set of mismatched hard drives that were potentially dodgy
D: you were using a rigged up secondary power supply. :bleh:

Real_Wolf
6th April 2009, 12:22
lol, thats incredibly dodgy there jafa.

I have the fun one atm, which I still haven't gotten round to fixing. One of my harddrives, is partitioned so that one partition is running windows, and the other just has files. Now, the second partition is missing. It shows up on the computer management, but it won't let me assign it a drive letter or access it. The actual HDD is fine as the other side is actually running windows, its just vista.

Needa take it out and plug it in somewhere else

Slyer
6th April 2009, 12:33
How important are the files?
Try running a chkdsk c: /r from command prompt and let it restart
That will do a full check of everything, it fixes a lot of problems.

6th April 2009, 14:37
And yeah, I will trade all my computer knowledge for bike know how.
(Come over, I'll fix your laptop and you fix my bike, we'll make a day of it. ;))

time to call seagate for some data retieval!

macros87
6th April 2009, 20:50
i would help you with your electricals slyer! if i had ANY "electrical know how" which i really dont i must admit... in fact i dont have very much of the "know how" in many areas :(

Real_Wolf
6th April 2009, 22:45
Slyer, tried that, no success. The wording is roughly "the management screen is not up to date, please refresh, reopen, or restart"

It shows up, right size, but it won't let me assign it a drive letter. I'd rather not reformat it, because it has stuff I want on there. Which I'll get off. Maybe next year

Metalor
8th April 2009, 07:18
I can help you with data retreival. Just need another hard drive to retreive it to. Getdataback is an awesome program. USed it a number of times when windows decides it doesn't want files on a drive anymore.

Oh, is there a fixit coming up anytime soon? Ordered some parts, but I'm thinking my front sprocket might need a bit of extra help getting off....

Slyer
8th April 2009, 09:06
I've also got this program that can recover a whole partition that has been deleted, onto the same drive.

Real_Wolf
8th April 2009, 11:41
yah, i've just been lazy. If I pulled it out, I could plug it into my brothers PC or my dads, and just copy the whole hdd accross, reformat that section and plug it back in

That's pretty shit. It's an officially issued licence. As long as you can give them something with a photo and name they should let you in (ie AU ID).

I'd be interested in their official policy regarding this, as there'd be quite a few students going through the GDLS and caught by this.

(Hell I remember people being Id'd with the old paper licences in the late 90's - just ask the person their birthday, whether they're a donor etc It worked fine for years)

Anyway, Jenny Shitley assured us when she usshered in the new licences that they were NOT a national ID card.

(Definately showing my age here...)

Edit: Chocolate goes well with stout, even better with a Belgian cherry beer, like Emerson's JP (Good luck finding THAT one. If you do, tell me immediately, and I'll pay a finder's fee...)

Yep! In NZ there is no such thing as a national ID card! But I guess ya gotta have something to prove you're age to get in places.

But yeah it's just stupid... If they're requiring hard copy ID driver's licenses because they're worried about being busted for underages then that's plain dumb cause the cops would be absolutely fine with my paper license.

I think it's stupid that they can't even rely on intuition to allow people in... After rejecting my paper license I showed them my uni photo ID issued as of 2006. Still don't let me in...

So pretty much this place wont let me in even though they KNOW I'm over 18. :gob:

On the other hand... I'm gonna be piiiissssseeeedd off if my license hasn't arrived by Sat morn at the LATEST... Really do not want to have to take my bloody passport into the city that night.

there is a sign up at the door stating that they only accept photo NZ drivers licence and 18+ cards.

i've been caught out before by this during o-week when i got my full car licence.

you'd think a uni bar would accept uni ID, but they might not have legal backing for that i suppose....

It's shit alright. If you present fake ID, then it's YOUR PROBLEM when the police catch up with you...They Id'd you. They fulfilled their obligation. End of story. I don't see the problem.

Shall we visit them for the chiller and I'll harass the management...:devil2:

We have a similar policy at work. I let people make remote charges without their licence after satisfactory enquiries = they can answer questions about the account. (I also look at what they're getting - nailgun = NO, roll of tape = yes.)

Common sense is a virtue sadly lacking. :oi-grr:
