PirateJafa

The Pastor

yes but when you say you will do somehting at law school, people tend to want a better reason for not making it other than "i want to go ride my motorbike"! And its more a social event rather than serious study/learn event, as in students against lawyers games weekend, and a chance to network while having minimal serious presentations. Im sure you boys can handle the coro without me! Besides im having a big ride weekend the following weekend... so if i can't make it i think i can handle it

are you saying you wouldn't love to spend a weekend with uni mates and talking uni??!!! :nono: thats disgraceful! haha

I don't have the luxury of insurance shelling out for a new bike or repairs. For me a bin means atleast 2 grand less what I paid for the bike in a payout to buy a different bike. I don't want a different bike... unless there's a minter of an NC35 on the market for 5.5k at the moment.....:shifty:

Swallow pride; ride the 250 and absolutely thrash it. It gives you an excuse if you fall behind and justified bragging rights if you keep up the front.

There is a fine line between brave and stupid.

At the best you'll lose your $15k bike and/or what licence you do have. (and if you get caught trying to get to work/uni/home while disqualified the vehicle you are caught driving is impounded plus over a grand in fines and/or jail time)

At the worst you'll be another statistic, victim to some simple mistake you could have avoided given more experience on a smaller, cheaper and more forgiving <250cc bike. Meanwhile we pay a higher acc levy to pay for your rehabilitation (or funeral).

Not saying licence=skill, but there is a strong correlation between experience and bin rate. There's a further correlation between attitude and bin rate. The odds aren't looking good.

you're talking to a guy who has twice now turned down an r6 in favour of a v4 400, and has a reputation for thrashing poor wee FXR150s around scenic drive and kaiauia.

After nearly a decade riding I fully agree with the old saying that it's more fun to ride a small bike fast than a fast bike slow:msn-wink:
(of course it isn't a small bike until you've ridden a bigger one lol)

I've also lost a bike due to lack of insurance - it was my brother riding and an unlicenced cager that caused it. Several successful trips to small claims and never got a cent. Never again.

you're talking to a guy who has twice now turned down an r6 in favour of a v4 400, and has a reputation for thrashing poor wee FXR150s around scenic drive and kaiauia.

Knock knock, is anyone there...

surely a twenty-something year old has more maturity and patience than a 16 year old?

Rob was actually referring to Jafa having bought and ridden his VFR before applying for his exemption.

I might add jafa was incredibly lucky when he was rear ended that the other rider had insurance and that he had gotten his exemption. If YOU were to rear end jafa (or another uninsured rider) you would be putting BOTH parties out of transport until you could both muster enough cash to get a new bike. Don't be That Guy.

well us who didn't wait as long as you to get a bike have had to go through the exact same licencing system on the exact same bikes. i was 16 when I was riding restricted and I spent my money on an IL4 250 to keep myself amused.

didn't bin it once either. dirtbike exerience had a large part to play. so did luck and a few miracles/glitches in the matrix.

I would ride the 250 this time.
I say this because of:

Your lack of experience with the bike will put yourself in danger.
The risk of getting a huge fine and demerits.
The lack of insurance in the event of a crash puts you at great finanical risk.

Not going to object or act all shocked if you turn up with it, I'm not that sour. Just a bit of friendly advice. ;)
The VFRs are going to thrash you either way.

As long as you ride sensibly and know your limit (and not even ride to it on the public road) then I for one would be happy to ride with you.

In my opinion it's all about attitude and if someone comes along to an SMC ride with the wrong attitude then they can fuck off, they are a danger to all of us. If you've got the right attitude however then we will all have a wicked day! :2thumbsup

see, with a bit more of a sensible attitude the fear that you will be a danger to yourself and others suddenly evaporates.

that said, non-insurance is asking for financial ruin; especially without 3rd party as you have no idea how much damage you are going to cause and the poor bastard you hit is going to be less than sympathetic. dunno bout you, but i can't afford new tyres, let alone a new mercedes

no need to not come back, jsut take on board what others say - which you're doing just fine. I know I did an uncomfortably silly thing on the last smctnr that i'll not be doing again, that Sam rightfully pointed out at the next stop.

yep it's your bike and your money, but unless you have the cash to replace MY bike with the same model in a reasonable time frame..... this (@renegade) is the crux of the issue where we get all whiny. plus we may have just saved him an injury (pride, financial or otherwise).

i agree having a licence means diddily squat to riding skill (and said so in my mammoth post), but it DOES mean insurance and not being found at-fault by default, plus several hundred bucks in fines. That and less than 7 days ago he confessed to fucking up a simple bigballs take off at the lights ;)

specifically, nailing it on an onramp while behind you and not considering that you might also plan on heading into the right hand lane while not being able accelerate anywhere near as fast and thus being much slower and no doubt getting a bit of a fright. at the time i dind't think much of it, upon reflection it was a pretty stupid thing to do (hindsight being 20/20 and all)

comes back to the whole thing where what one person considers (at the adrenaline fuelled time) a safe manuvuer is completely retarded when viewed from the slower traffic that had nil warning

There's going to be a movie night at my place after the Chiller on Friday.

Looking like Zombies at this stage.

I have Dawn of the Dead (original and remake), Evil Dead 1, 2 and 3, Resident Evil, Resident Evil Apocalyse and Resident Evil Extinction. Can't forget my classics, like Night of the Living Dead, or Oasis of the Zombies. Peter Jackson's Braindead. 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later. Plus of course there's Shaun of the Dead.

And if that runs low, we can delve into the vampires and werewolves.

After the movies, we'll just wake up and rock on down to the meeting point for the Coro.

As soon as we hit the motorway everyone fucks off at like 130. So, if its gonna be a well organised coro, where us slower bikes are welcome then yeah count me in. jafa ill crash at yours on friday.

Well I know that me, jafa and squiggles at least don't cruise above 110, so there ya go. And as you said, Sam will be there along with some other 250s so you wont be left behind as such.

Corners are a different story, I'd prefer the quick guys to boost off and make their own way so I don't have anything to worry about. Everyone theoretically should ride as if they were alone anyway.

There's no doubt that slower bikes are welcome, I have yet to go on an SMC ride where the group maintains excess speed on the straights.

So let's see what that cruiser can do on the coro twisties :headbang:

I'll be there for Zombies at Jafa's so should be a mint weekend in all!

just to prove you lot don't know everything... i checked the travel of the chain with ruler when got home and compared it against manual.... it was PERFECT... so leave my bike alone

yep - 25mm is teh "standard" free play

I thought the chain slack measurements were for when the chain isnt loaded with a rider on the seat?

when you load it it gets tight, so we set it when loaded to prevent the chain bottoming out before the suspension does... otherwise we get uneven stretching in the chain and dodgy rear end traction in corners

chains/sprockets are designed with the driving length tensioned and the returning length not.

wet roads + tar bleed = coroGP binfest OR expensive scenic tour

ive just come in from the shed. done the tyres but ive got front wheel bearings that are shagged. I dont want to risk riding it tomorrow !
KTMs are notorious for high speed head shake cos of their nimble geometry.
this will only make it worse.

Is there someone who is coming who would pick up some bearings from saeco on their way to the ride and drop them in as they come through Waihi?
