In 2008, the THINK road safety campaign ran an excellent advertisement, to make you aware of what can happen on the road. It was so well received that it is being run again this year.

Click here to see the advertisment (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-xK_t-A_8E)

The THINK campaign is a good scheme and has been running in the UK for some years now. In case the NZ Government doesn't have something similar (and if not, someone wants to raise it with their local MP), then here is some information on the scheme (http://www.dft.gov.uk/think/focusareas/motorcycling?page=Campaign&whoareyou_id=)

Not seen that before.

Very good.

I do however prefer the ones which educate car drivers of the fact that they should look out for motorcycles.

That is excellent...sure there would be less danger on the roads if car drivers looked for bikes but it ain't a perfect world and alot of those scenarios in that vid were just about everyday stuff that could happen to anyone...bottom line is that its up to US to be aware.

The van turning right as the bike was about to pass? Exact same thing happened to me yesterday arvo...fortunately my intuition was pricking cos the car had been driving a bit erratically and something made me hold back...sure enuf the cars right indicator flicked as it did a sharp turn into a driveway...

Its called 'Defensive Riding'...expect the unexpected!

OK, click on the following link:

Then click on the 'Take Longer to Look for Bikes' link - it will load in Window Media Player. It puts a very powerful message across.

We have a new pink look out for motorcycles sign in town - are these going up in other centres,or is this just as local thing?

Last weekend I was on my way up to my mates at KKK and couldn't help but notice this huge billboard/sign on the side of the road along Kahikatea Flat Rd.

It was aimed squarely at motorcyclists yet it wasn't a SLOW down message. It had a picture showing ideal lines to take while cornering. The message was clearly 'enjoy but be safe'.

Thats a different approach

Yakkin to local ACC lady she said there will be "look out for motorcycles" billboards all over the place I'm sure she said hundreds throughout Eastern and Western BOP (that's her area) I imagine this could be nationwide.

She asked me to have the B.A.D.D Roadsafety Ed Trailer at ACC/Roadsafety Motorcyclist things...I've said as long as it's only under the "look out for motorcyclists" campaign.

I really enjoy watching that ad and I think it'll truly bring it home to other road users the fact that we're just normal people too, with a million other things to worry about on the road than some others!

Loved the vid, what a great ride that was all those helpful notes everywhere, how come we don't get anything like that from our car drivers, or hitchers for that matter.
LOL sorry I realise it's not a perfect world, but just a little more awareness from car drivers and many more of us would return home each adn every day.
Same goes for us too though, ignore the signs and pay the price.Good post mate.
