No idea of the distances or times sorry Psyguy. Less for Napier, middle for Waikato North and a bit further for Auckland North depending on which route you choose...

FURTHER US Dodyiti, Google maps are your friend,

Bombay > Opotiki 304/307 or via Hamilton 337

    Napier.>Gisborne> Opotiki 357

Napier > Rotorua > Opotiki 344 ( around trip up one way back the other) 700km in a day good practice for the South Island.

dont mind the distance thou for us would be a better ride in summer,

    Rotorua> Napier 218km ?

    Bombay Hills >Rotorua 189km ?

Rotorua sounds good. Did the Kaimais and Pyes Pa back road to Rotorua about a month ago. Adds a wee bit of distance but a good ride!!

Howick to Rotorua: via Kaiaua and Waihi to Tauranga, then SH 36 via Pyes Pa to Rotorua = 270km approx.

Then home via Morrinsville, Tahuna and Ohinewai = 235km approx.

Napier to Rotorua: 218km each way.

That's my 5 cents worth re route suggestions.

    Hopefully it'll be ha ha

..and here was I thinking a run up to Wellsford, latte and carrot cake....back to Riverhead and a pint and a plate of chips.... Rotorua sounds do-able ....
and there is a swap meet on the following weekend.....hmmm did I read FROST!!!!

10th July 2011. (Sunday) Rotorua Swap Meet organised by the Rotorua Branch of the VCC. This will be the second year at their new venue, Rotorua Stockcar Track, Paradise Valley, Rotorua. Good public parking but as it is on the south side of Mt Ngongotaha it is very cold until the sun comes up over the top. Last year frost was settling on items as they were being placed on the ground. Dress warmly and wear thermal socks. If wet wear gumboots. Still worth attending though. More info to follow.

Another bit of good research, Voltaire if it was put of till following I think I would do aover nite ride after work on Saturday , up early for swop met , early lunch with fine company, beetle for home just in time to bet the frost settling thru the hills

So, then, how about we all meet up at Bombay then ride together as per Diggers' route? Meet Hamiltonians somewhere down the way, unless you feel like comming up to Bombay?

Perhaps note down Dodgy's route for a long summer day?

I've been looking at above suggestions and google maps a bit more... maybe the following could work:
    - Auckland folks meet at Papakura and ride via Clevedon and Kaiua to meet Waikato peeps in Paeroa, -- then to Waihi, Tauranga, Rotorua to meet HB crew
    - ride back via Morrinsville, Tahuna, Ohinewai

    480kms round trip from/to Papakura

    That OK everyone?
