    DB1k 2010 - Official Thread

There are two other threads out there for this year of the DB1k 2010 being the Small Bore Challenge thread and the DB1k 2010 ideas thread. Feel free to post in these threads but this thread will be the official DB1k thread for announcements around venues, dates, times, roll charts etc.

    Run Date
The people have spoken - the date of the run is weekend 16/17th of January 2010.

Accomodation on Friday and Saturday night
We are organising two options if they dont suit you it is up to you to organise something else. For the Friday night, the 15th, there is the Gladstone in Fairlie. If we support them with a full house, then it's a $35 flat rate for bed and breakfast. First in first served, limit 15. Includes covered bike parking that looks good & secure. For the Saturday night, the 16th, there is the Alexandra Holiday Park for the two day riders. We have secured a self contained unit designed for groups, with it's own kitchen, ablutions, seperate bedrooms plus a bunk room. Cost will be $30 incl linen, so you won't have to worry about carrying sleeping bags etc. There's also a secure bike shed. If you want one of these options your name must be on the appropriate list below. PM me to get your name on the list.

    Pre Ride BBQ
On the Friday evening, the 15th, we have organised a $10 BBQ tea at the Gladstone. All are welcome. We have use of both the beer garden and the rear lounge. If you want to attend your name must be on the appropriate list below. PM me to get your name on the list.

    Route Information
Over on my website there is a map with the route and points of interest, marked up topomaps, a google earth file and a distance calculation sheet. This route is being revised slightly following Pre Run and this post will be updated when the final roll chart and GPS file is available.

    Ride Etiquette/Safety
The runs to date have shown that small groups (2-4) of mates is best for the one day run. The two day riders have tended to ride as one large group in the past but I'd suggest give the numbers that smaller groups form this year. As with previous runs there is no support for the one day riders. They are expected to carry everything they need from food and water, first aid gear, tools, spares etc. Also there is limited cell phone coverage for most of the route. There has been a sweep vehicle for the two day riders for the past two years however I'm not sure if this will happen again this year.

    Ride Stickers
These will be available for all those who attempt the ride. They will cost $5 each. 50 ordered. First in first served at the BBQ on the Friday night. See this post to get an idea of what it will look like.

    Calendars

    Updates
Update A- This post has been completely updated on the 10th of November 2009.

    Final Word
There is no "entry fee", there is no registration, this is not an organised ride in the legal sense. This ride is simply a bunch of people following the same route at their own pace along publicly accessible tracks. I take no responsibility for any issues be they self inflicted or not. I will however endeavour to ensure that there are no right of passage issues along the route. You all need to ensure your bike its up to the task. There will not be a scrutineering or similar.

    Cheers R

I've had to bring the lists over to this post as I can no longer edit the original lists here.

    Accomodation
There are two accommodation options that we are compiling lists for. If your name is not on the lists then you need to organise your own accommodation. PM me to get your name on a list. If you have mates that are coming along please let me know how many and what their names are too. When you arrive at the location your name will be ticked off the list (we will provide the list to the proprietors) and you pay your money then (no money now). Obviously I need real names for the list I provide the proprietors.

Friday night - Gladstone Pub - B&B for $35pp. Breakfast at 6.30 AM

I have put in for 16/17 Jan, because Mrs B is mulling the possibility of visiting her folks in Germany at Christmas, and I'd rather not go all that way for only a couple of weeks. Thanks R for a very complete rundown on the ride - I promise I didn't even notice any spellink misteaks. Spelling, like many things is best left to pedantic surveyors

I could be keen, given that i'm likely to be in the Waitaki around that time (including the 5mnths before and 2 after!). Will have to play it by ear for now as theres a lot of uncertainty with the upcoming project. Plus I'll need to hire/borrow a tough arse truck and trailer as i doubt the impreza would get us far! mind you i could try and swindle the company hilux for the weekend...

Gidday mate, thanks for the offer. You could use the 40 series cruiser if your bro will let you near it Anyway you should have your licence by then - get yourself a bike for the small bore challenge!!!

Wifey and I will definitely be down to visit if you end up working on the project.

    Cheers R

Yo Ms Topo - you ticked the earlier date option but you didn't put up a post with the date you would prefer?

Any date suits us, we'll be there regardless

I had thought about the idea of contacting a 4wd club down that way to see about a sweep, shouldn't be too hard to find someone.
Our safari is available again, if needed, just need a pilot. Probly not as quick as the smurf but it'd do the job

I was going to vote for 16th / 17th as that lets anyone doing the safari do both events....but I need to confirm I can make those dates before actually voting.

Working on a huge number of brownie points, always hard when you start from a negative position!

Thanks for the offers JATZ and JMJ. Seems we have plenty of vehicles and driver offers. I think we really need two sweep vehicles one for the SBC guys and one for the two day riders. I've been thinking about the route and there are options for skipping the nastier sections if a sweep driver isn't so 4wd savy and meet up with the riders a bit further down the track. The majority of the route is gravel roads though drivers should have no problems.

It would be great to have any of Zukins family come and be involved in the Dusty. I don't know any of them personally so I'm not sure if they are would be riders or if they might want a seat in a sweep vehicle. We might be able to even arrange a 4wd for them to use for themselves. Either way I'm sure something could be sorted. It is a great bit of country and there is heaps to see. It is my impression that Zukin got a real buzz out of the ride and it was great to have him involved.

    Cheers R

    multi vote

I don't know anything about setting up these polls but it would have been useful to have had one of those ones where you could vote for more than one date
keen to do this ride though

Umm Yer - didn't think of that and I dont know how to set it up. Also I can't change it now either.

If people dont have a preferance for the weekend then I'd suggest that you dont vote - that way those with a preferance will decide the outcome.

    I'm not voting.
The XT needs oil leaks and/or cracks fixed, rego is on hold for 3 months so I might slowly pull it apart and fix it over those 3 months and see how enthused I am at the end of it.Or wether I park it over some railway lines during the night and claim it was stolen.
