my 250 doesn't satisfy me anymore, shes just not doing it
Got my old '88 GPX up to 170 once. I know it's as fast as it could possibly go because it was ringing out in top gear. Didn't even mean to do it... I was passing a long string of cars, dipping in and out and getting loads of draft when it bounced off the limiter and I went for a gear change and got nothing, so I looked at the speedo and that explained it. I'd say it'd have been around 160 - 165 true speed. Can get my ZXR up to 180 indicated without too much hassle.

Hmm...Kwaka Z200 did 120 tops, GN250 did 130, or if going downhill a little faster...got it going 150 once down the methven mt hutt straight with a tail wind....
Took a mates Honda NSR250RR out for a ride once...got over 200kph and thought thats enough
Got my Yamahammer zeal to 160kph, on the reviews they say they can only do realisticly 140kph. A very long straight with next to no cars on a slight decline, helmet facing down, body bent down all the way, that speed on a naked frame bike is like getting blasted in the chest by a powerfull water hose. When I tried it again it was 140kph but straight line speed is boring anyways.
nice speeds wish my hyo would do 160. 1 year and 1 month till full test ha

My old XF650 wouldn't do some of those speeds.
I think you guys are providing strong arguments as to why the learner bike legal rating may be reduced from 250cc.
I am not in favour of this however I am in favour of more thorough training to help save lives through missadventure.
173kmph on my Hyo.
Needless to say it didn't like me very much for doing that.
What you have in your heart will be revealed through what you have in your life.
If things are going badly in our circumstances, the answer to what is happening to us outwardly is more often than not found in the mirror.
You made it home safe in the rain then chef? Taking your mirrors off will give you an xtra few kmh. Remember it's not how fast you can go that counts, it's how fast you can stop!
Comparing the GPX250, Ninja 250 and ZXR250, I'd say the average learner would be safe as a Hindu cow on the first two, but the ZXR definately takes some conservatism to ride safely. I think the system should be changed to HP output. They're considering doing this already.

My 1973 CB175 would do a genuine 83 mph (136 km/h), slightly faster if you redlined it downhill in top (5th).
... and that's what I think.
Or summat.
Or maybe not...
Dunno really....
On a perfectly still day on a dead flat road, my vtr 250 is only really good for 130 at best. Had 155 down a gradient. If there is a little breeze its more like 120. And all of the above is in 4th, 5th just seems to be for economy. But I don't think everything is quite right with it... I read reports of vtr's doing 150-160 on the flat. Some days it feels very slow and passing can be quite a task.
Looking for a hornet or an early 90's sports bike to get onto for the rest of my 250 sentence.
No wonder why we end up paying more for Registration...........
