On the speedo around 165-170kmh on the spada, thats flat on the tank on a long straight, when I slowed down I heard the engine had developed what was the beginnings of a death rattle..

On a perfectly still day on a dead flat road, my vtr 250 is only really good for 130 at best. Had 155 down a gradient. If there is a little breeze its more like 120. And all of the above is in 4th, 5th just seems to be for economy. But I don't think everything is quite right with it... I read reports of vtr's doing 150-160 on the flat. Some days it feels very slow and passing can be quite a task.
Looking for a hornet or an early 90's sports bike to get onto for the rest of my 250 sentence.

Agreed. 2007 VTR250 lumpy road 147kph indicated (maxed out). I wasn't flat on the tank (ducked down a bit though). I weigh 78Kgs plus gear.

Last summer my Kawi experienced 184kph. Although I do doubt the accuracy of the needle a little. Stock standard and fully down tickling the tank with my helmet.

I happen to know a certain pepsi rep rgv used to hit 224kph corrected. Apparently it had couple more kph in it aswell. Gutted i couldn't afford it when owner sold it. Bloody well sorted bike it was.

I don't think a stock ape 250 will get near 240kph. I think you'd be lucky for 210-probably closer to 205-208.
Though the speedo may hit 240 haha

But I suppose this doesn't count as its not my personal top speed.

My TRX850 goes to an indicated 240kmh... it has 85nm of torque and 80hp - but only 5 gears. The thing is that it get's any where in the range from 40-200kmh really quick, and slows down just as fast, if not faster.

It's not a 250, however on my CT110 I managed to crank to about 70ish kph on the flat with no head wind.

Haven't tried down a steep hill, I don't dare, cuz the brakes are crap.

I got 90 out of my old ct110... running 30% methanol that I used in my r/c nitro planes... no air cleaner..... we used my vt also as a pace/ speed verifier 2 this. Brakes were shot on my one too so engine brakeing was done by bashing it all the way down to first so the rear was locking up hehehe

Got 94-95 mph ( ....151-1533kph) out of my Suzi.T250 in '71..
Had a CB250R that the speedo would start slowing down at about 105 getting to about 115-18 max, even though the bike would keep accelerating.....
I think there was a problem........
