Waay back in 1985 I worked for this plonker who went to Milwakee to pick up and ride his brand new custom built $35,000 Harley- It had "all the bits" on it and he told me that after running it in , he opened it up on the texas straights and wound it up to 115mph (184kmh) He reckoned that it was the fastest harley in NZ at the time - I just laughed and told him that my $3000 RG250 Gamma could do more than that, within a standing start kilometer. and it needed new rings!
Retired- just some guy with a few bikes......

An RS250 will rev out in top at 130something MPH. Untuned.
It's only when you take the piss out of a partially shaved wookie with an overactive 'me' gene and stapled on piss flaps that it becomes a problem.

    I don't think a stock ape 250 will get near 240kph. I think you'd be lucky for 210-probably closer to 205-208.
Though the speedo may hit 240 haha

But I suppose this doesn't count as its not my personal top speed.
    yeah i saw 180 + 20< on that bike

The HP curve on them falls of dramatically after 17,000rpm.

where opinion holds more weight than fact.

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.

And all of the above is in 4th, 5th just seems to be for economy. But I don't think everything is quite right with it... I read reports of vtr's doing 150-160 on the flat. Some days it feels very slow and passing can be quite a task.
Looking for a hornet or an early 90's sports bike to get onto for the rest of my 250 sentence.
why?? the VTR is good enough and any other 250 isnt going to be that much of a power increase to justify it (unless its a 2stroke), keep it till you get your full then get a 600 or something.

My old race preped NSR hit 246kmh on a flying 1/4

Obviously an Aprilia, who has ever heard of an "untuned" honda rs250.

an NSR will be around the same as an aprilia rs250 once you have done a wire splice, as they were limited out of the factory. most people forget an rs250 is just an derestricted RGV engine in a different frame.

Funny thing about top end. I don't really think about it any more and certainly don't ring my 600 out to top end on the open road any more.

I weigh about 95kg and am a tad over 6 feet tall. I got my VTR250 up to 140kph without a screen and topped 150kph with a givi screen attached (and me flat on the tank).

I wouldn't ride my current bike much faster than that - only difference is it gets there much quicker out of the corners!

In short what I'm trying to say is that top end on the road isn't such a holy grail and it should be more about torque and power delivery (useability) than pure top end.

I've ridden Spada, VTR250, Bandit 250, Hornet 250, Zeal 250, ZZR250 and an RG150 and found the twin cyciner bikes more useable by far.
